Today is a calm, peaceful day.... Sitting in a concert at Paine College's Gilbert-Lambuth Memorial Chapel.... The Augusta Chorale is singing 🎤 Who Would Imagine a King? 🎤 Whitney Houston style from 'The Preacher's Wife'... it's their salute to the late Whitney Houston... ... but wait, can we rewind a little? Back to the name of this great institution of higher learning? Paine College Historically Black College & University ...this name is comprised of so much history... the history of my people's attempt to 'UNCHAIN' the African American mind, heart, body, soul... ... through the means of Education. A venue to think deeper; harder; conjure independent thoughts and opinions... Pause... ... It's deeper... a place where my mother; my aunts attended in pursuit of knowledge. Here I am sitting on History... not just any history... ...my history... my family's history... it's all a part of me.... It's surreal to ponder events that occurred before me.... but it's imperative for me to reach my destiny. I realize that every inch of 'substance' that was poured into me passed through the gates of Paine College... Just a thought. Be aware of the value of the land you tread upon. You must know where you came from; to know where you're going. What I know is that I'm living off the promises of my Grandmother, Louise.... I'm living off her Faith... I'm treading the path that she laid before me... ... I AM BLESSED beyond measure.... #knowyourhistory #knowwhereyoucomefrom #africanamericanhistory #roots #foundation #knowthyself #blackisbeautiful #blackhistoryisessential
