"Feels very contemporary right off the bat, with its mixture of oscillating electronics and squawking distortion. Knifight seem here to be quite comfortable with letting atmospheres build. Opener âMistakesâ takes roughly two minutes to kick into full gear, but itâs a beautiful two minutes of scene-setting, easing the listener into their dark but energetic mise en scene. And it only dawns on you after four minutes that youâve been listening to the hippest gospel song ever." Â -OVRLD
Knifight: V
#NewMusic Read our review of @knifight new album #V ...
Knifight is one brutal name for a band, but donât be scared. From Austin, Texas, Knifight produces some of the better rock and post-punk music out there. While the band maintains its very individual style, Knifight also manages to remain tame enough to care to everyone. Although these guys have been busy touring, theyâve also been hard at work to produce a brand new album, V.

Growing up in Tyler, TX Knifight's John Gable (vocals) was first inspired by that town's hardcore scene; however, Knifight began as a solo industrial electronic project. Keyboardist and saxophonist Patrick Marshall joined Knifight, the project became a noise-based electronica duo before they relocated to Austin, TX. And while in Austin, the band expanded to a quintet with the addition Nick Garrison (guitar), John Hetherington (bass), and Nick Cogdill (drums).Â
Interestingly the band has played at a noise festival and toured with the likes of Future Islands (who, I think is an awful, awful band) and Duran Duran during 2014. This upcoming year could be a big year for the band as they'll be releasing their sophomore full-length effort, V. The album marks the first recorded output with live drums and it reportedly shows a change of sonic direction for the band -- as you'll hear on the album's first single "Young Lovers" the band's sound manages to be clearer and yet much darker.  Propulsive and shimmering layers of synths are paired with buzzing guitars, thundering drums and eerie vocals.Â
In some way, the song evokes a murky, unsettling anxiousness -- the sort of anxious feeling you might have when you're absolutely certain that someone is watching your every movement behind your bushes. Are they in the shadows? Or are you they in your bathroom?Â
Last show of 2014 12/12 @ Holy Mountain
The Good Music Club will be releasing our live CD/DVD at this show and we couldn't be more excited. Their recordings and videos are top notch. Also a portion of the proceeds will go to local charities. This is also our last show of 2014 and will not be one to miss.
The Facebook event page for the show can be found here.
