Send “I’m in love with you.” to see how my muse reacts.
The two friends have grown distant ever since things happened, they pass each other as friends, nothing more, nothing less — who would have imagine the things both of them went through together a few months back? Six months, give and take. Their memories together were kept in a box of souvenir, one that she’d look back once in a while and smile at how lovely each and every moment was, despite the fact that they were both not made to fall in love with each other. Not at the right time and place, that was. Upon arranging the boxes in her room, she came across one of the cards he gave her, attached to one of his many gifts. With her thumb lightly grazing over the letters, she heard someone knocking on her door.Â
Why would anyone come to her place at midnight? The timing just seemed odd, her boyfriend was occupied by the tight schedule of his, of course he couldn’t risk their relationship by visiting her right at this time of the night. The night owls are always watching. Placing the piece of paper down delicately on the bed, she turned the doorknob open, slightly stunned by the visitor that stood in front of her, soaked under the pouring rain that disturbed her a few hours ago. Lips parted agape with widened eyes, she tilted her head to the side while hesitantly pointing at him with her index finger.Â
"I — what are you doing here?"
Her question went unanswered. His balance seemed to be off at the moment that he tumbled over, leaning against the wall with his eyes squeezed shut as though he was suffering from something — a headache or perhaps… oh, alcohol. He must have been drinking early during the day, otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so wasted at this time of the day. Inviting him inside would sound odd, they had no business of being alone together anymore. Any skinship they shared way, way back had to be stopped. Friends. Nothing more, nothing less, and she was more than glad she got that over her head. And then he spoke, yet his lips were too close together for her to actually understand what he wanted to say, the words slurred right out of his lips.Â
"Aster… I’m in love with you. I was, I still am."Â
The words caused the world to stop spinning around her; it might have been an exaggeration, yet it felt that way. The girl was torn, torn between pulling him into a comforting hug and telling him that she was glad they’re where they’re at right at this moment, yet at the same time, she wanted to laugh at him, laugh at how absolutely pathetic the whole situation was. He has a significant other, and so does she. Whatever it was that he was spewing, she did not have it in her anymore to believe him or to take those words into account. Rather coldly, she crossed her arms over her chest with an arched brow, clicking her tongue once in mild irritation.Â
"Why? Why are you saying that now? You’re not in love with me. You’re in love with the idea of being in love with me. We’re friends. We’re just friends now, maybe close friends — but you have to understand that I’m not in love with you anymore. I don’t see you the way I used to, I don’t feel butterflies in my stomach whenever you’re near anymore. I’m with someone and so are you. So please, please do both of us a favour and go home, take a shower and get some rest. I’ll pretend this never happened. Have a good night, Joonmyeon.”
