Hello, I come from the notes of the "reblog if it's okay to send questions or statements", so I'm not a regular follower, I apologize. I saw that you write fanfics - and you write them for yourself, which is fantastic, I'm working on learning to do that - and I was wondering if you wanted to talk about a fic you've really enjoyed writing? If not, are there any fics you've read recently that you'd recommend? Sorry if these questions are inane or not relevant. Hope you have a nice day! š
Hi random stranger!
Thanks for the ask, I know it can be intimidating to reach out to people, even online!
I do write fanfics, my AO3 is the same as here, with an underscore instead of a hyphen. I write for a small fandom, Hoganās Heroes, which is a 1960s TV show set in a POW camp in Germany during WW2. Hoganās Heroes is a comfort show for me, I grew up watching it and on every re-watch, I pick on little details I didnāt notice before.
I mostly write m/m smut for the fandom š Why? Mostly because Iām fascinated by the dynamics of the pairings I write about, and the added difficulty/stakes of hiding oneās sexuality/relationship in Nazi Germany.
One of my favourite fics I wrote is one I wrote while battling insomnia at 3am, itās called Smooth Operator. If you donāt know the fandom/characters, it gives a good snapshot of the two featured in this fic. Both characters try and hide their feelings for each other, while bluffing the other (i.e. x thinks that y will chicken out of kissing them, y kisses them, surprising x, etc.). They end up sleeping together and admitting they have feelings in the end.
Part of the whole āwriting fics for myselfā thing for me is that I recognize that not everyone wants to read smut, let alone m/m smut. The fandom is good for āif you donāt have something nice to say, donāt say something.ā So itās freeing to not have to worry about hate comments/harassment. I write the fics I would want to read and if others read and enjoy them, then thatās a bonus!
Have a good day š
