the main role of topic markers is letting the other people know what you’re talking about or going to talk about . you can think of the topic markers (topic particles) 은/ 는 as meaning “about” and “as for” , change of scenery / narrative and contrast

words ending with a consonant + 은

words ending with a vowel + 는

𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 :

저는 학생이에요 - as for me im a student / im a student

내일은 저는 일해요 - as for me i work tomorrow

내일 is followed by 은 and is a topic , but not the subject of the verb 일하다 because it is not “tomorrow” that works but “i” that work

“저” is quite formal , it is used to refer to oneself when addressing social superiors , strangers , especially if they are older or higher standing in society

𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 : when you talk to your boss

저는 제 일을 했습니다 - i did my work

“나” is informal , it is used to refer to oneself when addressing equals , subordinates or people you know well

나는 피곤하다 - im tired
