"Iâm seeing someone.â Blaine says and instantly Kurt feels his head drop out of his body.
Donât cry. Be cool. Smile. Oh God...Iâm gonna be sick. Kurt tells himself, suddenly feeling sick to his stomach.
âAnd I wanted to tell you in person,â Blaine explains. â...especially because you know him.â he adds.
Please donât say Sebastian Smythe! Kurt prays and suddenly he feels a clap on his back as someone says âHey Kurt!â Â Kurt watches as the man comes in and kisses Blaine softly on the cheek and sits down next to him. Itâs only then that Kurtâs brain can register who is actually sitting in front of him.
âKarofskyâŚâ Is all Kurt says, staring in disbelief.
âI knew this would be a little weird for you,â Blaine begins.
Itâs a living nightmare! Kurt thinks to himself. âWhat? No...itâs not weird at all.â he stutters out. âHowâd you two meet up again?â he asks, a curious look on his face.
âWell...it was actually just a few months agoâŚ.right here as a matter of factâ Blaine begins. âI was a little bored, so I decided to Country Bear Nights here at Scandals and there was Dave...doing the electric slide.â he laughs.
âFunâŚâ Kurt replies, sarcastically.
âYeah... and then we got to talking.â Blaine continues. âM-mostly about you. I was just so angry at what had happened and it was just me venting about the break up.â
âBut I reminded him, you know, how much you helped me during that dark time in my life.â Karofsky jumps in. âI mean...you forgave me for all the crap I Â put you through.â
âAnyway... we to talking and hanging out andâŚ.and here we are.â Blaine replies, with a laugh.
âHere we are!â Dave chimes in. âYogi and boo boo. Thatâs his nickname for us because Iâm his big bear and heâs my little cub.â Suddenly, Kurt literally feels sick.
Oh, Iâm gonna be sick. Iâm gonna throw up! And when did Blaine start liking bears? He wonders, trying to keep the bile from escaping his stomach.
âI know this isnât what you wantedâŚâ Blaine begins. â... and I know this isnât going to be easy, but I just wanted all of us to be adults about this.â
âAnd Iâm hoping we can be friends.â Dave adds, with a huge smile. âYou know...we can all hang out and stuff.â
âOh...sounds like fun.â Kurt laughs playfully, trying to cover up the fact that the tears are flooding his eyes and he doesnât know how much longer he can hold them in. âBut, if youâll excuse me, I have to use the restroom.â he says standing up from the high barstool. He walks back through the back feeling his breathing start to quicken. He knows he going to cry...itâs not if...itâs when. He goes to the bathroom and locks the door before going into one of the stalls. He pounds his fists against the wall as the tears start to flow before turning around and sliding to the disgusting bathroom floor as he sobs.
Back out at the bar, Blaine knows Kurtâs not okay. They dated for three years. He knew Kurt well enough to know he isnât okay. âIâm going to go check on him.â Blaine says to Dave. âJust to make sure heâs okay.â
âOkay hun, âDave replied, giving him a smile. Blaine walks to the back of the bar and tries to open the bathroom door, but it wonât budge. Kurt put the lock on the door.
âKurt...itâs me. Open the door.â Blaine says softly.
âJ-just a second.â He hears Kurt sob. It kills Blaine to hear Kurt crying. Not to long ago, he would have been in there holding Kurt and drying all of his tears with kisses, but that wasnât going to happen now. No matter how much Blaine still loved him...he had broken his heart. Kurt had broke him. Kurt left him a shell of the person he used to be and he still hadnât forgiven him for that.
When the door still doesnât open, Blaine taps again. âKurt, please open up. Are you okay?â he asks. Thatâs when the door does open to reveal Kurt, his eyes and nose red from the obvious crying he had been doing.
âNo, Iâm not okay.â Kurt says, tears still in his eyes. He breaks from the bathroom and heads towards the backdoor, Blaine following behind him.
âKurt wait!â Blaine calls.
âWhat? What do you want?â Kurt yells back from the parking lot.
âI just want to make sure youâre okay.â Blaine replies.
âWell Iâm not!â Kurt screams. âI get it your happy! Thatâs great! But, Iâm not, Iâm miserable!â he sobs. âBreaking up with you was the biggest mistake of my life and now Itâs too late to fix it. So just leave me alone.â he yells going towards his car.
âKurt...wait, I donât think you should drive right now.â Blaine said. âYouâre...understandably upset. Let me talk to Dave. Iâll drive you home.â he adds jutting in front of Kurtâs open car door.
âNo, Iâm f-â Kurt begins before suddenly feeling the earth move under him. First, he thinks heâs imagining it, but then he hears a crack. He looks up to Blaine, whose face looks just about as scared as Kurt feels before the ground is ripped out from under their feet and theyâre falling. For the short amount of time theyâre falling, they donât understand whatâs going on, but then they both hit the ground. Kurt blacks out as his head hits the ground,
When he wakes up, itâs dark and dusty. He looks around, swallowing thickly. His head is pounding. He reaches up to his forehead and his fingers touch something wet. Heâs bleeding. Suddenly a thought comes to him⌠Blaine.
âB-Blaine?â He calls. âBlaine!â he calls again louder when he hears no response.
âO-over here.â a weak voice replies. Kurt crawls through the rubble in the darkness.
âKeep talking!â Kurt calls. âKeep talking so I can find you.â
âIâm over here. Iâm over here. Iâm over here.â Blaine calls, his voice weak. Eventually Kurt crawls enough that he sees Blaine lying in the rubble. He crawls over to him and grabs onto Blaineâs hand.
âAre you okay?â he asks.
âM-my leg h-hurts.â Blaine cries, his breathing heavy. âI-I canât see it. Can y-you see it?â he asks. Kurt tries, but he canât, Then he realizes that he has his phone in his pocket. He prays that the stupid flashlight app that he never used still works. He pulls his phone from his pocket. The screen is cracked by it still turns on. Kurt shines the light to where Blaineâs body is and sees Blaineâs leg...that is crushed under his car. âK-Kurt, is it there?â he demands.
âItâs there.â Kurt replies. âItâs under a car, but itâs there.â
âItâs under a car?â Blaine asks alarmed. âW-what?â
âStay still.â Kurt tells him. âYou could make it worse.â
âGod weâre going to die in here,â Blaine cries.
âNo weâre not.â Kurt tells him. âEveryone at Scandals surely heard the collapse. Theyâll get help.â
âOh God...Dave.â Blaine breathes out.
ââIâm sure heâs fine.â Kurt replies. âJust focus on breathing and staying awake for me okay?â Blaine nods. They sit in silence for the longest time, not knowing what to say to one another. And then a bright light flashes into the crater which makes Blaine and Kurt squint. âOh thank God!â Kurt cries. He sees a rope lower down a walkie talkie and crawls to grab it. Â
âIs anyone down there?â a voice yells.
âYes! Weâre here! Thereâs two of us!â Weâre here.â Kurt yells back.
âAre you injured?â the voice replies.
âM-my head is bleeding. But my- uhh friend, his l-leg is trapped under a car.â Kurt tells the voice. Then, the voice stops. He can hear murmuring coming through the speaker that theyâre using to communicate with them.
âWhatâs your name?â the voice asks.
âKurt, Iâm Jeff. Iâm on the rescue team.â the voice- or Jeff replies. âWhatâs your friendâs name?â
âBlaine.â Kurt tells him.
âOkay, Kurt, can Blaine move his leg?â Jeff asks. Kurt looks to Blaine, who shakes his head in a panic.
âHe canât move it.â Kurt cries.
âShitâŚâ Jeff murmurs. âKurt, we have a plan to get both you and Blaine free.â Finally, Kurt feels like he can breathe. âItâs too dangerous for us to come in the sink hole to get you guys, but we can send a harness in that will lift you both out. But Kurt...youâre going to have to amputate Blaineâs leg.â
âWhat? No-No.â Kurt stutters. âI-I canât. I canât hurt him.â
âKurt, you need to.â Jeff tells him. âDonât think of it as hurting him. Youâre saving him Kurt. You and only you can do this.â Kurt panics for a moment. How can he cut off Blaineâs leg? He needs that! I-Itâs his leg! But eventually, he knows it has to be done.
âO-okay, Iâll do it.â Kurt cries.
âOkay, weâre going to send down medical supplies in a case.â Jeff replied. âYouâll see it soon. It has everything youâll need for the amputation.â Â Kurt nods, even though jeff canât see him. Then, he sees a case come down and unties it form the rope. Then he crawls back over to Blaine with the case and the walkie talkie.
âW-whatâs going on?â Blaine asks, his breathing shallow.
âI-I need to amputate your leg.â Kurt tells him.
âMy leg!â Blaine yells. âNo! No! Kurt! No!â Kurt doesnât know what to do so he leans in and kisses him on the lips, calming Blaineâs breathing.
âI donât have a choice. Itâs either your leg or your life.â Kurt tells him tears streaming down his face. âOkay, Jeff⌠what do I do?â
âOkay, Kurt.â Jeff begins. âFirst, tie the tourniquet...thatâs the blue rubber thing...around Blaineâs leg. Try to make it as tight as possible and as close to the bottom of Blaineâs leg as you can.â Kurt nods and does what heâs told. âThen take the betadine and pour it over Blaineâs leg. We have to try to make this as sterile as possible to avoid post-op infections.â Kurt does that as well.
âNow what?â Kurt asks.
âOkay...this is going to be the hard part.â Jeff says. âYouâre going to need to use the scalpel and slice through the muscle tissue so you can get down to the bone. It is going to hurt Blaine, but heâll be okay afterwards.â
âOkayâŚâ Kurt says hesitantly as he picks up the scalpel. He looks to Blaine, who looks terrified.
âJ-just do it.â Blaine tells him. Kurt nods and then he begins to cut. Kurt had never heard something so horrible until he heard Blaine scream.
âIâm so sorry! Iâm so sorry!â Kurt yells while he continues to cut. After slicing through the muscle, Kurt sets the scalpel back in the case. âNow what Jeff?â he asks.
âOkay, take the bone saw and saw through Blaineâs bone.â Jeff replied. âYouâre going to gave to push hard.â Kurt picks up the bone saw and turns it on. Itâs mechanical sound makes Kurt want to be sick. Or maybe itâs the concussion that he most likely has.
âWeâre almost done.â Kurt tells him. âOne last step.â Blaine nodded, tears running down his face. Kurt braces himself and then starts to cut and Blaine screams, bloody murder screams. Kurt keeps going until he feels a crack and knows that heâs done it. âIâm through. Itâs done.â Kurt says to anyone whoâs listening.
âThatâs great Kurt! Weâll be sending down the harness. Get yourself and Blaine over to it and weâll bring you both up.â Jeff tells. Kurt nods and smiles knowing this awful event is almost over. Then, he looks back to Blaine. Heâs clutching at his chest.
âC-canât breathe.â Blaine gasps out clutching at his throat.
âJeff! He canât breathe! He canât breathe!â Kurt yells.
âOkay, calm down!â Jeff yells. âI think his lung is collapsed. Youâre going to have to reinflate it.â
âHow the fuck do I do that?â Kurt yells.
âThereâs a needle in the case. Stab it into Blaineâs chest and itâll inflate the lung.â Jeff tells him. âCount down to the fifth space in between his ribs. Thatâs where youâll poke it.â Kurt counted with his fingers and took the needle in his hand.
âY-youâre sure this will work?â he asks.
âJust do it! He canât breathe!â Jeff yells. Kurt takes the needle and stabs it hard into Blaineâs chest. One the needles is in Blaine gasps, finally breathing once again.
âYouâre okay.â Kurt says running his fingers through Blaineâs hair. âYouâre okay.â he repeats. After, Kurt drags Blaineâs body over to where the harness is dangling. He straps his around both his and Blaineâs body before giving the okay. Then the harness begins to move as they go up higher and higher. Finally, a light comes into view and Kurt and Blaine are pulled out of the sinkhole. Instantly medical professionals are at their side. They take Blaine and strap him to a stretcher before rushing him off to an ambulance. âNo! Wait I-I want to go with him.â Kurt yells before being put on a stretcher himself.
âYouâre both going to the hospital.â The paramedic replies, but Kurt wonât stop freaking out. Eventually, they have to sedate him. When he wakes up, all Kurt can see is white walls and bright lights.
âW-where am I?â he slurs.
âSir, youâre in the hospital.â A doctor tells him, shining a light in his eyes. âCan you tell me your name?â she asks.
âK-kurt.â he replies. âW-whereâs Blaine?â
âWeâll find your friend.â the doctor replies. âLetâs focus on you. From the looks of it, youâre okay. You have a small cut on your forehead andâŚâ
âI donât feel good.â Kurt groans before turning to the side and vomiting all over the doctorâs trauma gown.
â...and a concussion.â She explains. â...which explains the vomiting. But, I promise youâre going to be okay. Iâll just stitch up your head...as soon as I get a new gown.â After cleaning herself up, the doctor sutures his head and puts him in a private room. Everything is hazy but he recognizes Dave Karofskyâs face when he walks in.
âD-dave? H-how is Blaine?â Kurt asks weakly.
âHeâs in surgery.â Dave replies. âTheyâre cleaning up-his leg...or whatâs left of it anyway.â he cries.
âY-you really like him. Donât you?â Kurt asks. Dave looks up with teary eyes and nods.
âI know we donât have what you guys did, but we-weâre happy.â Dave tells him. âHeâs finally okay. D-did you know he almost killed himself when you left him?â
âI-I didnât know.â Kurt replied.
âI caught him and Iâve been helping ever since.â Dave replied. âThe relationship just happened. But...I know he still loves you...in a way he could never love me.â
âI-Iâm sorry. If I hadnât insisted on meeting him at Scandals, he never would have gotten hurt. He never would have lost his leg.â Kurt cried. âItâs all my fault.â
âStop.â Dave replied. âThat is the one thing that isnât your fault. You had no idea there was a sinkhole. You saved him...down there. It was you Kurt.â At that point, kurt just cries letting the situation really sink in.
About an hour later, a doctor comes and tells both of them Blaine is out of surgery. Dave walks while Kurt is wheeled in a wheelchair to Blaineâs bedside. Blaine was still under the anesthesia, but he was beginning to wake up. âKurt..â He moaned. Kurtâs heart lit, but he also felt bad. Daveâs face looked crushed before he left the room.
âI-Iâm here.â Kurt said, grabbing Blaineâs hand. He looked at Blaineâs  leg...rather his stump. âIâm going to make this better. Iâm going to fix this. Iâm going to win you back.â Kurt says before crawling up onto the bed with Blaine and nestling into his collarbone.
