OH MY GOD I'M SORRY I MADE YOU CRY BUT ALSO NICE TO HEAR MY WRITING TOUCHED YOU SO!

Just under thirty minutes till closing time, Kris noted as he looked down at the time on his phone behind the counter. The cafe on Camellia Avenue was pretty much dead already save for the two stray customers who have been loitering around for just over an hour, and Kris kind of wished he could go back home already to do something more worthwhile with his time, like finally work on that song that had been looping in his head all week. He didn't mind the closing shift for the most part, but sometimes it just felt so slow and drawn out and it almost seemed like time was moving backwards. Once the last customer actually left, he'd have to lock up, clean up, and prepare everything to be in working order for morning rush so there wouldn't be any last minute surprises before he could actually go home.

It could be fun with the right kind of company—he loved sharing the shift with Megan, for instance—but tonight he was alone since they'd gotten cut down. With so little business on the slow days, it was no wonder the manager didn't want to pay extra employees. Kris felt lucky that he hadn't been on the cut list this time around, already nearly coming up short when it came to paying rent the last two months, but sometimes he wondered if getting cut would finally push him towards something better in life than being stuck at a dead-end job in the middle of California, hundreds of miles away from home.
