speed of reading and writing.
because in languages like this one, this one here, all this text, people are wired to understand like THAT. most people can't help but parse the syntax of their language instantly upon reading/hearing/seeing it.
{{'\__||' |'['-L'[,-} ??? } it's easy to write--after learning just 26 patterns--and it's hard to read.
as soon as you have a conversation partner in -|"/,'\_|-•/_' you have access to the mental equivalent of sending off a letter with a horse-drawn-carriage-mailman.
the simplest conversations in -|"/,'\_|-•/_' can take hours, without either side wearing out on writing-juice (recall: relatively easy to write). you don't want to waste your conversation partner's time, so you pick small or concise or easy to guess words.
and, crucially, it's energetically unreasonable to go back and fret over past conversations... because they're hard to read. you'd have to pick over them for those same hours. all that matters is the now.
it's more conversation per conversation.
