basically anything where of them are constantly trying to best each other, to the point of obsession, but if anything were to happen to the other and THEY arenât the one to defeat them (think Zuko springing Aang out of jail) then theyâve lost meaning to their life - thatâs THEIR rival, how dare someone else challenge/defeat them! ditto if they were to ever actually defeat them; the rivalry gives their life purpose, gives them something to strive for. Often the things they hate about the other are weaknesses they dislike in themselves or traits theyâre envious of.
