Another World
Iâm still not sure what to do with Tumblr as a platform after the exodus-not-an-exodus. It seems like everybody went over to Discord, with dozens of hypnosis kink servers that swerve into an area that I couldnât keep up with and found overwhelming - I deleted my account there about a month ago. With multiple servers and multiple channels per server, keeping up seemed increasingly impossible. Maybe Iâll try again some day, but Iâm sure all of us have had a busy season that takes us to the point of looking at any form of social media and asking âSo what exactly am I still doing here, anyway?â
In July almost everything was on the virtual chopping block except FetLife - this Tumblr, Skype, Twitter, you name it - mostly because it was a lot of work to keep up with things. Nobody was really messaging me on these platforms, but I do enjoy reading what people are planning as events and things go.  After unfollowing a few people that posted a few pages worth of stuff a day, I got things down to a manageable level.
Iâve had a lot of personal things over the last year. These tended to shake my foundation of what it is I am doing with these kinky spaces versus what it is I would like to do, in part spearheaded by an off-the-cuff note from Daja in some notes for a class presentation we did at Entranced 2018 - âWhy are you here?â It wasnât directed to me, but itâs one of the rare things that really stuck in me like a harpoon that I canât get out of my hide. I still donât have an answer - due to star alignment/my inability to ask, Iâve never actually played with anyone at a kink con or kink space - just the person I married. As I get a little older, the question remains - why be on kinky social media? Why peruse chat boards?  Am I going to be doing anything with this beyond satisfy a curiosity about whatâs happening with the world and scratch the itch of knowing what the cool kinky people are doing this season?
Using the metrics of âlunchâ and âperson picked you up at an airport,â I have made some friends and some very good friends on here. Iâve learned a lot from people in 2017 and 2018, drawing inspiration from non-kink places to grow my skills as a person which have paid off handsomely in marriage areas (cookies) and work places (presenting more things.)  I can say there has been real value in being around here in general, but as to kink specifically? I still donât have a clue why Iâm âhere.â As I have no interest in having teh sex with others and Iâm not good at sniffing out what kind of play might be mutually interesting, well, at least I can say Iâve learned how to bake and sold what I thought were some very cool pins.
Thanks to the massive amount of work-related things, I do feel like Iâm spending too much time on the computer. Sitting on the couch or playing video games increasingly feels like a productive, healthy change of pace over the endless scroll of Tumblr and other platforms, so Iâm patting myself on the back for cutting that down to a more reasonable level.
