I set out to get a few more local spots for this blog which got me talking to my friend A. Her father is a photographer with a studio located in the heart of Ybor City on 7th Ave. He has experienced some odd things in his studio and heard stories from other renters in the building. The King Corona Cigars Cafe & Bar is located on the bottom floor of this spirited building so we decided that a lunch date was in order. I invited a couple other friends L and L, and we heading over.
King Corona Cigars Cafe & Bar is located in lovely Ybor City and is a fantastic stop for my Food & Spirits project. It's got that vintage character, lots of great ghost stories and fantastic food to boot. Ybor City is a neighborhood located just northeast of Tampa, Florida that was founded in the 1880s by cigar manufacturers and was populated by thousands of immigrants mainly from Spain, Cuba and Italy.
King Corona's menu highlights lots of delish cuban favorites like mojo park, Cuban sandwich and cafe con leche. We went for the Cuban sandwich and it was pretty darn good. The ingredients were very fresh and the bread not too hard. Paired with plantain chips and followed by a cafe con leche, I have to say, it was really my pleasure.
The staff is super helpful and sweet. They were all very quick to tell me all kinds of spooky stuff that they have experienced themselves working there and a few stories they have heard over the years. I heard everything from poltergeists to apparitions. Good stuff!
