meheartonepiece answered: Somehow, calling Jimbei āJimā cracks me up. Maybe itās because calling such a big, tough looking fishman a common name like Jim is hilarious XD And man, Buggy and friends are really the stars of this arc. Letās see what miracles they can accomplish!
It cracked me up too. Couldnāt resist. XD
I wonder how Buggy will cope with such a flashy competitor, now Bon Clay will join the team? (I am totally assuming he will join. Heād better...)
nounoursonne answered: Trash - sub alliace are definitly the bet love it ! āGomenā I giggled u_u As for Jimbei it does deepen the question ⦠what is his relation with Arlong huh ? better waitto know (as usual T-T) New reunion soon ;)
Ooooh, yes. Must say that did cross my mind. Arlong is so different to Jimbei. What caused Arlong to be the way he is? Probably awful humans selling people into slavery, but Iāll wait to see what Jimbeiās story is.
king-ace-the-turtle answered: jinbei and jimbei are both technically correct, like senpai vs sempai. in japanese, the character ć is usually romanized as n, but iirc, when itās before a buh or puh sound, itās pronounced like āmā instead. itās a matter of personal taste, mostly.
Ah, thank you for the linguistic input. Must admit itās weird calling him Jimbei, but if that is phonologically accurate, Iāll stick with the /m/ over the /n/. ^_^
tempus-nexus answered: One who can top buggy? I donāt know who could possibly⦠oh. OH. Ok YES THAT ONE. Ok yeah youāre going to love that one. Oh, gods thatās going to be fantastic. You Will Know. Absolutely.
FREAKING BON CLAY, AM I RIGHT??? *_*
supramp9000 answered: Do not. Call him. Ā Jim.
In all seriousness though, the way his name is pronounced has been contested by the fans for years. Ā Different translations will go between Jimbei and Jinbei since from what Iāve heard the kanji used to spell it can go either way, although I donāt know how legitimate that is. Ā Not exactly an expert on that sort of thing here, but you get the idea. So unless you heard it in the anime you might not find something youāre satisfied with. Ā It doesnāt really matter either way so just call him what ever feels right. Ā Even if itās⦠*sigh* JIM.
A lot of familiar faces in this arc. Ā Everyone is pretty much the same as ever. Ā Not much of a spoiler to say you wonāt have to worry about Crocodile changing at all. Perhaps heās gotten extra dirty from spending all that time chained to a wall? Ā While Iām on the subject, even among Devil Fruit users Crocodile has had a bad run of it. Ā Oda talked about it in a rather interesting SBS. Ā Users, of course, lose their power when a good deal of their bodies are submerged in water. Ā If itās just their limbs they are mildly weakened, but thatās about the end of it. Ā Because of this they can take showers with no discomfort. Ā Crocodile on the other hand loses his power when touched by any water (or blood⦠damn it) at all, which is why Luffy managed to even survive against him. Ā Olā Croc canāt even bathe without becoming scrub level. Ā Oda joked that he probably takes showers anyway though, since you donāt expect to be attacked in that situation. Ā Ah, but I digress.
Buggy and Mr. 3 are a real riot. They work so well with each other, real dream team those two. Ā I wonder, what other character from the past could possibly top those two? Ā Or, perhaps thatās saying too much.
Also, I wouldnāt worry about female prisoners in Impel Down as far as Absalom would be concerned. Absalom was tough, but Impel Down tough? Ā Thatās be stretching it a bit. Ā Even if he forgot his (admittedly screwy) morals, I get the feeling that it wouldnāt be long until he found out just what itās like to walk in high heels, if you catch my drift. Ā Which you donāt.
I solemnly swear I will lay off calling Jimbei āJimā. Was fully aware of being a daft arse. The mere thought of such a badass being known by such a normal name cracked me up. xD
As for the pronunciation, @king-ace-the-turtle said the /m/ sound is usually heard after a /b/ or /p/ (probably a bilabial plosive thing. Economy of effort and all that stuff). Iāll just go with Jimbei. ^_^
That revelation about Crocodile and showers has blown my mind. (I love the fans for asking those sorts of questions in the SBS section!) He is so meticulous about his appearance, itās difficult to imagine him foregoing a shower. Whatās the point in spending so much time and money on your appearance to ruin it by being a stinky stinkerson? I suppose Crocodileās power had to have a weakness, otherwise he would have been untouchable for a rookie like Luffy.
Was the walking in high heels a veiled reference to Bon Clay, by any chance? >:D
slaxtheraven answered: I think heās Jinbe. But the fanbase calls him many things, like Jimbe, Jimbei, Jinbe, Jinbei. I suppose whichever form youāll use, itās fine.
I had some linguistic input from king-ace-the-turtle, so Iāll go with Jimbei from now on (even though it feels weird to change. Iām so used to using the <n> form).
leo-regulus answered: Ace and Jinbeiās relationship is awesome. They both have such respect for each other, and you can tell how badly Jinbei wants both Ace and Whitebeard to live. Yeah, thereās the Fishman Island reason, but he genuinely cares about them, too.
Jimbei did say he was holding onto hope in episode 430. I hope heās clinging on hard enough, because that is my absolute best case (probably woefully unrealistic) scenario right now. :(
evaison-art answered: Jinbe is the best, i love him to death and i feel like hes very underappreciated, he deserves more love !
Really? D: Thatās kind of sad. Not much love from the fans for him? Heās a great guy. Whatās not to like!
paddster answered: Ace already told us who his dad is: Whitebeard! and thatĀ“s what counts. So donĀ“t think about his biological father too much because WB is more than satisfying as a dad imo ^^ Also I think you missed/miscounted the levels since Ace and Jinbei are on level 6 āeternal hellā and Luffy & co right now I think are on level 3 āstarvation hellā :)
You are so right. It doesnāt really matter who Aceās deadbeat dad is. Whitebeard was there for him, so thatās all that counts. ^_^
Ah, crap. I forgot they were in a special level all of their own. D:
meheartonepiece answered: One Punch Man is indeed awesome and also shorter than jjba, so I do recommend watching that first. Jjba is a must see sometime tho, especially with part 4 coming out in April!! (IāM SO HYPEDDD)
If I ever finish One Piece, One Punch Man is totally next in line. *_*
martyslittleusedblog answered: Have patience, and youāll see why Magellan is the warden. In the meantime, enjoy the toilet humor. XD
Excellent... Iām looking forward to watching Magellan open a can of poisoned whoop ass. >:D
leo-regulus answered: There really is a lot, you can always catch more things in rewatches :) But yeah, things are truly getting crazy. Lots of fun, and lots of pain. Good luck, Iām cheering you on! (I know, I repeat myself, but I canāt say more without spoilers)
Thank you! ^_^Ā And Iāve decided to stop procrastinating and get on with writing more reviews. Itās easier to watch one episode at a time, just because it doesnāt take up so much time. I might stick with that, so I can get more done. :)
deesorceress answered: The clothing Jimbei is wearing is a traditional Japanese outfit called a jinbe and the Japanese name for whale shark is jinbe-zame.No one really expected Jimbei to be who he is, from the moment he was mentioned everyone thought that he would be a villain worse than Arlong. But his real nature was a pleasant surprise, heās one of my favorite characters introduced in this arc.
Oooh, now the significance of his clothing makes sense. Oda basically took the shark theme and ran wild with it. The traditional clothing definitely suits his stoic, philosophical character, though. ^_^Ā Heās a great guy. I can see why you like him.
