#king d-mind

Okay, I think Dark Mind is the most Nothing Burger mainline Kirby villian ever, if not in the entire series

Almost nothing is known about him ingame besides “He is evil and wants to take over the Mirror World”

And yeah, he is referenced by Void Termina in one of their attacks which might mean something but like, almost every boss is so he is not special

I will argue that Nightmare and Dark Nebula (two similar final bosses with little to no info on them) are more talked about, the former because of the anime (without it, he won’t really be that popular me thinks) and the latter because ‘Lord of the Underworld’ title (despite being a localization thing) and his possible connection to the Sparkling Star among other reasons

Not saying nobody cares for him at all, he just have less attention then all of the other mainline villians because the lack of depth and info he has compare to the others

Now, a theory that I have seen thrown around is that Dark Mind is the Mirror World counterpart of either Nightmare or Zero. or even a combination of both counterparts, and yeah, I can see it especially since he have aspects of both of them

However

As shown in this official tweet by the Kirby Twitter account, it heavily implies that Magolor doesn’t have a mirror counterpart because nothing is shown while looking at the dimensional mirror

This tells me that not everyone has a Mirror World self and if Magolor doesn’t have one, I seriously doubt both Nightmare and Zero would have one as well

I still do think that Dark Mind is atleast somewhat connected to Dark Matter, even if it’s just the substance and not the actual species (if that makes sense)

His name brings the phrase “Mind over Matter” to mind (heh, mind) which means this:

So my epic game theory is that maybe he is like, a advanced version of Dark Matter that gained perception or something???? I think that would be cool

Or maybe he is just his own thing exclusive to the Mirror World, since some Mirror Worlders (like Dark Meta Knight) reflects the darkness their Popstar counterpart, maybe Dark Mind was formed by the leftover darkness from the hearts of many? That may be true but it is still very vague compare to other bosses lore

There is the possibility that he corrupted Queen Sectonia because of the whole mirror thing, it’s way more likely then DMK doing it, that’s for sure

Oh, let’s now talk about something that is also l related to Dark Mind, sorta!

This is King D-Mind from the Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, a king of darkness who is summoned through the Black Mirror by Dark Taranza but he proceeded to shatter the dumb spider

After clashing with Team Kirby, they managed to trap him back the mirror and shatter it, saving the Dream Kingdom

He also had a role in Super Kirby Clash but idgaf

I found some interesting stuff like with Taranza using the Black Mirror so much that the balance of worlds breaks and lots of Parallel versions are born alongside Taranza’s dark counterpart

And King D-Mind being born from Dark Taranza’s evil mind who he considers to be the most strongest and savage warrior

Let’s take a look at the Black Mirror itself actually, it bears a striking resemblance to Dark Mind himself, perhaps it was created with him in mind or his origin place because remember, even before Dark Taranza summoned him, King D-Mind was manipulating regular Taranza through this mirror to summon rampaging monsters

Of course, the Kirby Clash games take place in a alternate universe but I always saw the Mirror World as can be visited/connected to all these universes as long if they have a variant of the Dimensional Mirror

Oh, and also it’s probably not important but his internal file name is “MaskedBlackDedede” Black Dedede being Shadow Dedede name In Japanese, but there is not enough evidence (if at all) to suggest Shadow Dedede and D-Mind are the same

In fact, this might not even BE the same Dark Mind from the Amazing Mirror

So like, can multiple D-Minds exist as long as if people has evil minds? What’s up with the skull mask and flaming eyeballs? Did Dark Taranza considered both Shadow Dedede and Dark Mind as extremely savage it created King D-Mind?

Who knows?

So in conclusion, idk, maybe Dark Mind isn’t meant to be that deep,he was just a villian that needed to be overcomed and that’s it

Even the mysterious laughter disappeared, and all that could be heard were calm sound waves.

“...huh? Wha-?”

The Kirbys, very perplexed, fearfully looked over in the direction of the enemies.

Both Frost Kibble Blade and the caped man were still as statues, unmoving. Not just that, but the ice cutter and star-shaped projectiles were both frozen in midair.

“What?” Doctor mumbled, dumbfounded. “It’s like... like time itself has stopped, right in its tracks...”

“Time? That word... that must mean-!” Kirby shouted. Then, as if to finish his sentence, a cheerful voice resounded:

“I got here just in the nick of time! Hey guys, it’s been forever, huh!”

Running into view was a green Kirby.

The trio shouted together:

“BEAM!?!”

Hammer stared wide-eyed in shock.

“Beam... how did you...?”

“No time! I’ll explain later! C’mon, team, let’s finish these bozos off!”

Beam raised his staff up high.

His staff had the ability to stop time for enemies with the Time Beam spell. However, the effects wore off rather quickly.

“Now’s our chance, let’s finish the job!”

“Got it, leave it to me!”

Hammer raised his weapon and unleashed a powerful attack on Frost Kibble Blade.

WHAM!!

A heavy sound filled the air. The Kirbys cheered.

“Awesome!!”

“Just as I’d expect from you, Hammer!!”

Hearing the cheers of his companions, Hammer’s vigor grew and grew.

“Heh, you think that’s awesome?? Get a load of THIS!!!”

WHAM!!

WHAM!!!

BAAAAAAAAAM!!!!!!!

Frost Kibble Blade’s hard helmet started cracking.

Staring in awe at Hammer’s power, Kirby suddenly came to a realization:

“Oh, I get it! We can’t just tae down the puppet, we’ve gotta take down the guy pulling the strings!”

Sword in hand, Kirby jumped high and slashed at the caped man floating in the air. However, the man’s body was as sturdy as steel. Despite not wearing any armor, the Knight Sword barely made a dent.

The most he could do was tear the edges of the cape.

Hammer was about to lend him a hand, but his weapon weighed him down too much. He wasn’t able to jump as easily as Kirby could.

“Give it your all, Sword!”

Amidst all of his companions’ encouraging shouts- suddenly, Team Beam’s effects wore off.

The caped man flinched, surprised. Upon realizing Frost Kibble Blade had been defeated, he panicked.

“Wh-What!?! What the-!?!

“Eat this!!”

Kirby slashed at him, but the man quickly evaded the blow.

The man, noticing the edges of his cape in shreds, shouted angrily:

“NO NO NO NO NO, HOW DARE YOU!! You little pink spherical BRAT, BEHAVE YOURSELF THIS INSTANT!!!”

However, now that he lacked the help of Frost Kibble Blade’s brutal attacks, victory was no longer a realistic outcome.

“YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE LAST OF ME!!!”

Leaving nothing but a threat behind, the man suddenly waved his cape.

“WAAAAIT!!!”

Kirby tried to chase after him, but in the blink of an eye, the man was gone, vanished.

“Grr, that no-good coward!! Just running away like that!!!” Hammer said angrily.

“Well,” said Doctor, “at least we were able to take down Frost Kibble Blade. I think that’s good enough for now. Mission accomplished.”

“Couldn’t’ve done it without Beam!”

Kirby, Doctor, and Hammer all gathered around Beam.

“Good to have you back, Beam!” Doctor said. “But, I must ask, just... how did you know we’d...?”

“I heard about the monster attacks. Thought it was time to get Team Kirby Z back together, so I hurried over as soon as I could.”

“But what about when the monsters attacked and destroyed the Castle Village?” Hammer said, forestalling. “How long did it take you to realize everyone had moved?”

“What?! How do you know that??”

At the shocked Beam, Hammer burst into laughter.

“Well, I was kinda in the same situation!”

“That was indeed the case. You see, after learning of the monster attacks, we headed straight for the Port Village. That’s where the three of us set out from to defeat the monster in the Seaside region. We hurried here as fast as we could.”

“And thanks to you, we didn’t get crushed!!”

The trio then proceeded to jump onto Beam.

“The gang’s all here now,” Doctor said with a cheerful face. “Now, you know what to do!”

“Yup!”

The Kirbys all raised their weapons up high together.

“I’m Sword!”

“I’m Doctor!”

“I’m Hammer!”

“I’m Beam!”

“Together, we’re four...”

On the beautiful beach, the quartet’s shouts resounded all throughout:

“AND TOGETHER, WE’RE TEAM KIRBY Z!!!!! BACK TOGETHER AGAIN!!!!!!!”

The news of Team Kirby Z’s reforming brought great joy to the residents of the Port Village. A gloomy shadow had been cast over the village after the news of the monsters’ appearance had come, but now life and cheer had returned. 

Kirby was busy every day with part-time jobs and intensive training. Whenever he wasn’t at his side jobs, he would have fun passing time chatting with Bandana Waddle Dee at the base of the Gem Apple Tree. Afterwards, he’d hone his skill with the blade. It took a while, but gradually it came back to him, and he was able to unleash sharp moves. Then, once he got done training, he’d enjoy a nice dinner. At Chef Kawasaki’s tavern, he and his friends, Team Kirby Z, would scarf down excellent meals. That’s how things were for some time, until, suddenly, news of a new monster came in.

That evening, as always, the Kirbys had gathered at the tavern to eat together.

And then, Meta Knight came in.

He briskly walked up to the Kirbys and informed them of the news.

“Team Kirby Z, this is a job for you.”

Kirby quickly swallowed down the sandwich he had stuffed in his mouth.

“A job for us? What do you mean? Have more monsters shown up?”

“Something along those lines.”

Meta Knight, sitting at the counter, continued.

“The raging beast is known as Pyribbit. He is a monster who attacks with lava.”

“Well then, he’s gotta be at the Volcano, right?” Doctor asked. Meta Knight nodded.

“Exactly. And close to Pyribbit, there have also been sightings of a caped man, or so I’ve heard.”

“Wait a second, it’s him, isn’t it!”

This filled Hammer with rage.

“I still haven’t gotten over what that jerk did to us!!”

Kirby and Doctor, also enraged, nodded.

“He called us spheres!! What a meanie!!”

“I’m never ever gonna forgive him, EVER!!”

“Is that what you can’t stand about him?”

Meta Knight coldly jutted in before continuing.

“There’s one thing I’m worried about.”

“What is it?”

“Until now, it seemed that the caped man was keeping himself out of sight, hiding, controlling the monsters from behind the scenes. However, now he seems to be outright trying to draw attention to himself.”

“What do you mean??”

“Most likely, he did this to lure you four in.”

The Kirbys stiffened their facial expressions.

“So he sees us as a nuisance, an obstacle, doesn’t he?” Doctor said. “He’s trying to get rid of us!”

Meta Knight nodded.

“Yes. Over the course of this month, he’s been lying low in order to prepare. He’s finally found a monster much more powerful than the others that came before it, one that he’s certain will bring you four down.”

“Heh, bring it on!” Hammer said with vigor. “This time, we’re gonna wrap things up for good. Rest assured, once we’re through with him, he’s never gonna do anything bad ever again!”

“I’ve done good in my training, I think I’m ready to take him on. I’ll give him all I got!” Kirby said. “Besides, we can buy some new gear. We’ll go to Magolor’s store before we take off.”

“We’re Team Kirby Z! No one can stop us when we’re together!” Beam shouted valiantly. We’re gonna take that caped guy down and bring peace back to the Dream Kingdom!”

Doctor yelled to Chef Kawasaki behind the counter:

“If that’s what we’ve decided on, then we’re gonna need to prepare for the trip. Hey Pops, I’d like to order some boxed lunches. For four people, of course!”

“Got it! I’m gonna give you the best I can cook, to keep your stamina up for the whole trip.”

Chef Kawasaki rolled up his sleeves.

“Well then,” Doctor said, “as soon as we’re all ready, let’s get going. Sally forth, Team Kirby Z!”

Having just left the tavern, Kirby decided to head toward the Shoppe to ready some new gear.

The shopkeeper, Magolor, welcomed Kirby with hospitality.

“Welcome, Pink Kirby! I have prepared a very nice sword and helm just for you!”

“I’ve saved up a lot of Gem Apples. So, whatcha got for me?”

Kirby excitedly piled up his Gem Apples on top of the counter. Magolor, upon counting them up, looked down with unease.

“All of these together... are twenty. Oh dear, that’s barely anything...”

“Wh... what? It’s... nothing?”

“You’ve been working part-time for one month? But this is all you’ve got?”

“...y-yeah.”

Now that he mentioned it, it really wasn’t that much. Even though he only got ten every half-day from Bandana Waddle Dee, that still should’ve amounted to six hundred after one month.

“Why do I barely have anything?”

“Overeating.”

Having been told so bluntly, Kirby couldn’t manage a response. Surely, his lack of Gem Apples was because of the meals he ate at Chef Kawasaki’s tavern every night. 

Magolor did the calculations on an abacus.

“Twenty Gem Apples can get you the Gale Set.”

“...really? But I wanted the Golden Set...”

“Tee-hee, surely you jest! The Golden Set costs one hundred and twenty Gem Apples!”

Magolor laughed it off and took out the Gale Set from inside his shop. While not too strong, it was still far more suitable than the Knight Set.

Kirby pulled himself together.

“I feel a lot stronger now. Thanks, Magolor!”

“No need to thank me. Once you get more Gem Apples, please come shop here again, pink pal!”

“Okie dokie! Bye-bye, have a nice day!”

With the Gale Set now equipped, Kirby headed off for where he and his companions were to meet.

Team Kirby Z set off for the Volcano Region. In large crowds, the people of the Port Village followed along to the edge of the village to see the quartet off. 

“Of course,” said Doctor while walking, “it is essential that we defeat Pyribbit. However, our real target is the caped man.”

“That’s right.”

Kirby nodded.

“Unless we defeat the mastermind behind all of this, it’s never gonna end.”

"My Time Beams can help with that!”

Beam held his staff up high.

“I’ll stop the clock, and then we can all go in to take down the caped man!”

“No, I don’t think it’s gonna be that easy,” said Doctor. “We fought good last time, but this time our enemies are probably gonna be prepared. I’m guessing you can’t stop time in just one or two hits. First Sword should attack ‘em really fast, get 'em dizzy. Then when there’s an opening, Beam comes in and fires off Time Beams. Once you hit ‘em a couple times, time should come to a stop. Then we can go all-out.”

“Roger that!” the Kirbys shouted.

Their opponent would be tough, but they weren’t worried about losing. As long as the four worked together, Team Kirby Z was an unstoppable force. The group headed north from the Port Village for about ten days. 

At last, the Kirbys arrived at the Volcano Region.

Beneath their feet the lava had cooled and was covered in rugged rocks. There were pools of magma here and there, with bubbles rising out of them. The hot air all around was almost suffocating. The Kirbys hadn’t walked that far, but they were already sweating.

“It’s too hooooooot!”

The first to cry out was Hammer.

He seemed very tired, likely due to carrying the heaviest weapon out of the group. His whole body was shaking, flinging large drops of sweat everywhere.

“I hate volcanoes,” Hammer said, “why can’t the monster just go to the Seaside Region...”

Doctor laughed.

“Don’t be silly! Pyribbit’s a monster that manipulates lava!”

“I’m tired of this. Let’s just take care of Pyribbit and the caped man and go home!”

The moment he said that, the surface of a large pond of lava started rippling. Kirby, noticing, shouted:

“Everyone, watch out! Here he comes!”

The Kirbys spread out in a tactical battle formation. 

Then, something jumped out from the lava.

A bright red monster with a large, round, frog-like body, a crown of flame on its head.

“It’s him, Pyribbit!”

Kirby quickly surveyed his surroundings. There wasn’t a caped man to be found.

“Where is that guy?...”

Doctor shouted:

“Focus on the enemy at hand, Sword! We’ll look for the caped man later!”

“Got it!”

Kirby shifted focus to Pyribbit.

With lava pouring out from his body, Pyribbit glared at the Kirbys with dark eyes.

“Hiyahhh!”

With quick swings of his sword, Kirby slashed at Pyribbit. MULTISWORD ATTACK!!

“Bravo, Sword!” Hammer shouted with an elated voice. “Looks like all that training paid off!”

Pyribbit let out a low growl before spitting large globs of lava at Kirby. Kirby quickly dodged.

With Pyribbit distracted by Kirby, Beam raised his staff up high.

“Take this! TIME BEAM!!”

A direct hit! Pyribbit was startled, but one hit wasn’t enough to stop time. Beam’s look twisted to one of frustration.

“Oh... oh no...”

“Keep going, Beam!” Kirby shouted and readied his sword. “Once you hit him enough times, that should be enough to stop it!”

Kirby thrusted at Pyribbit at a high speed. DRILL STAB!!

The attack knocked Pyribbit off balance.

And then came a second Time Beam, and then a third!

Pyribbit stopped moving, still as a statue.

Time had stopped.

“It’s now or never!”

With great enthusiasm, Hammer raised his weapon overhead.

“HERE IT COMES!!”

Several heavy blows, one after another. Pyribbit’s large body started losing shape, becoming more syrupy. 

Eventually, the effects of Time Beam wore off.

Pyribbit no longer had the strength to fight.

As he let out one final cry, he sunk below the surface of the boiling magma.

“Phew!” Hammer said, wiping the sweat away. “Welp, now that that’s taken care of, what about the caped man?”

“I don’t see him anywhere,” Doctor replied with a tense voice, carefully surveying the surrounding area.

“Weird. Wonder what that jerk’s planning...”

Suddenly, a familiar laughter echoed throughout the area.

“AHAHA... HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!!”

The Kirbys held their breath and readied their weapons.

A whirlwind blew in, cutting through the hot atmosphere.

He appeared, emanating a ghostly air- the caped wizard himself!

“You’ve fallen right into my trap, you foolish little spheres,” the caped man said mockingly.

Immediately Hammer tried swinging his weapon at him, but Doctor quickly cut him off.

“Cut it out, Hammer!”

“Hey, stop it!! C’mon, he just called us spheres again!!”

Hammer seemed resentful. Doctor whispered to him in attempt to persuade him:

“Calm down. He’s trying to make us mad! You’re only giving him exactly what he wants!”

The caped man continued talking down to them in a stupid voice, swaying around in the air.

“Now, you naughty little brats deserve to be punished. Punished for getting in the way of me, the great, the almighty, Parallel Nightmare!!”

“Don’t even try it, buddy!” Hammer shouted back angrily. “We’re not gonna fall to any of your schemes! If we can beat Pyribbit, we can take whatever you have in store for us!”

“Mwahahahaha! You FOOLS! Pyribbit was nothing but a decoy, a TOOL to lure you out here!”

“What are you talking about?...”

“Now, say hello to your real opponent.”

The caped man, Parallel Nightmare, quickly raised one hand.

A crack in space formed.

Right there arrived a sinister foe, one the Kirbys knew all too well.

The quartet shouted in unison:

“KING D-MIND?!?!”
