“Don’t open your eyes yet,” Kit stipulated, leading his wife very carefully down the darkened path. He had been meaning to do something for some time, yet it was the time that hadn’t allowed it. Duties of the throne that kept both monarchs busy, that did not always allow for as much time to themselves as he would like.
But then were he truthful no amount of time was ever enough. Never enough to bask in her light, her kindness, her love. She was like the sun to his world, the light the drew a smile inevitably to his lips, a warmth in his chest none could extinguish. Her beauty shone from within, made her more radiant and stunning each time his eyes fell upon her. It was why he wished to do something for her. Something special. It had been far too long since they’d time to themselves and at the first possible opportunity he had set his plans into motion.
Kit pulls his hands back from where he’d covered her eyes, revealing a table set to candlelight in the privacy of their secret garden. The roses were in full bloom, set the air fragrant as moonlight shone over them bathing the space in a gentle silver light.
“I made it myself, save the food, of course. I’ve not quite learned that part yet.” Kit was grateful for the kitchens and their indulgence so late in the day. He walked over to the table, picking up what had consumed the greater part of his day, a carefully woven crown of flowers, blue mixed with white and violet blossoms. It was far from well made, he had dutifully tried to remember what she had taught him previously, but it had been far more challenging than h had expected.
“Now remember, I’m not quite practiced yet,” he explained, quietly hoping it might not fall apart when he set it over her golden hair. “A crown,” he stated with a smile and a soft kiss to her brow. “For the kindest and most beautiful of queens.”
