5: Talk about the best birthday youâve had.
Jeez, I don't know. I'm not a huge fan of birthdays. I've never had a very memorable one just because I don't like throwing parties and I've never been one to make a huge fuss about myself. On top of that, the Army has done a bang-up job of interfering with every birthday I've had for the last four years. That being said, my best friend did a pretty spectacular job of making my most recent birthday lovely and memorable even though I was away at annual training. So that was pretty cool.Â
15: Talk about the time you were most content in life.
I talk about this all the time but I found peace in Idaho, at my uncle's dry farm. He converted a grain silo into a self-sustaining cabin on a plot of land overlooking a canyon cut through the countryside by a river. I went there last summer with my family and there was virtually no cell phone service so aside from taking pictures, we were all present. No outside distractions. We were just together. My adult sisters and I played tag together like we were little kids. We had a barbecue and stayed up til all hours playing party games and laughing til we cried. I've never been more home than I was when I was there.Â
24: Talk about something someone told you that meant a lot.
Can I just put the entirety of my conversations with my best friend here?
34: Talk about the worst physical pain youâve endured.
I had PRK surgery done on my eyes a while back. PRK differs from Lasik in that it really really fuckin hurts because the upper layer of your eye (the epithelial layer, for you science nerds) is SCRAPED THE FUCK OFF YOUR EYEBALL, whereas Lasik is not that. Essentially, about ten minutes after my surgery, after the Valium and painkillers had begun wearing off, it felt like molten lava had been poured into my eyes. That seems like a bad exaggeration, but it's the best description I have. My eyes were so sensitive to light and literally everything else that I had a freezing washcloth and a bag of frozen peas laid across my eyes, making everything pitch black, and it STILL felt like there was too much light getting in. My friend drove me to the pharmacy to get more pain meds and by the time we got there I was actually writhing in my seat because the pain was fucking unbearable, and this coming from a girl who has had period pain so bad it made her vomit. I was doped up on pain pills over the next week and was unable to do anything but sleep in a room with shuttered and blanket-hung windows. My eyes were essentially swollen shut and trying to get them to open was an ordeal and a half. Five days later I could finally see and my vision has been perfect ever since, but yeah. That sucked.
