A before and after of my kiln firing yesterday. Had to get these glaze tests done and was pleasantly surprised by the results. I thought the red clay body may affect the underglaze I plan to use, but it did not. One test was on bisque-ware, the other two greenware. Some had a white underglaze base, there doesn't seem to be a difference in shade or intensity whether directly on the clay or on the white. Good news for underglazes! However, this has made me realize I REALLY need to do test tiles for ALL my glazes on the red clay.... Insert GIANT sigh here. Test tiles are SO boring for me. This will be the last kiln photo for at least a little while, but I had to share the after! The blue moon smoothed to perfection and look at the brilliance of that yellow!! Today and tomorrow are my last kiln shots for now I swear!! At least I hope!! This is my last firing before my shop update. Had a couple unexpected re-fires and my last crystal stragglers to fire a clear glaze on. Also, threw some stuff in to bisque too. Those are a whole new project😉. Tomorrow will start my photographing blitz. Whatever is successful from this kiln load will go with some other pieces to be photographed for the listings. Then it's on to making the listings. This update will have 4 TOTALLY NEW item drops, and the date is still TBA. I'm thinking next week? The kiln gods smirked apparently. Everything turned out pretty well, but the blue moon pitted instead of dripped. I'll take it though! Better it alone need re-fired than ruining other pieces. The crystal moons worked swimmingly!!! I'm ecstatic about that! Please pray to the kiln gods for me today!! A. Hoping the one moon won't drip. B. Hoping the crystal moons survive. Because they're AWESOME. C. Hoping my touch-ups on a few pieces work! D. Hoping that top yellow moon stays put this time!! I threw some pieces in to bisque because I didn't really have enough glaze or green ware pieces to do separate firings. I'm trying to fill this tiny kiln each time I fire! I also think I will have one or maybe two more glaze firings before the update. Possibly all this week?
