I finished this campus novel in a couple of hours, and found it provocative, funny, and fundamentally humane. Set at a Baptist college, it is a hilarious, prescient, and appropriately savage send-up of both academic administration and the hypocrisies and shibboleths of white American Christianity.
Be it noted, racism, ableism, and fatphobia are also themes of the book; so if those themes or related slurs are likely to be triggering, proceed with caution. I cheered for the ways in which the characters come together to defy the institutions that are structured around these stigmas. Oh, and there's blues music!
