A reniform leaf is shaped like a kidney. This is similar to an oval with an inward curve on one side. Kidneys are organs in the abdomen of vertebrates (animals with a spine) that are shaped like beans. Kidney beans are also named for their visual resemblance in shape to a kidney. Some types of geraniums are an example of a plant with reniform leaves.

Leaves come in all shapes and sizes, including 'Ensiform', like a sword; 'Orbicular', round; 'Cordate', like a heart; 'Deltoid', triangular; and 'Rhomboidal', like a diamond.
