The inter-sex movie was super interesting. I enjoyed learning about these individual’s lives and what they went through based on an incorrect theory. They were mutilated physically, mentally and emotionally. Something was taken from them and they were not able to get that back. What makes this right? It is just so upsetting. But I am glad they made the best of it and created a community of people with similar issues. I think a support group is very important in trying to heal an emotional wound. They were not asked permission to get something taken away from them and that would make me furious. They deserve respect! I am also happy that their voices are heard now. Society has warmed up to this situation which is progress. But we still need a long way to go. What if this was you? What would you do?

I really enjoyed this plenary because we got the chance to hear three distinct perspectives of women and religion. My family is Catholic and I grew up going to church, but once I became older my feeling of church changed. So, I liked the fact there were people like me out there that feel Catholic but do not attend church regularly. Each of the three panelists expressed their passion for their religion and culture. I also liked the fact that even though they feel strongly about their own religion, they respect other religions. I am used to seeing people of different religion arguing with goal to put the other down and to prove that their religion is better. They should learn from these three women about respecting each other. Everyone has the freedom to follow or be a part of whichever religion they choose. So let them be. Another thing that stood out to me was the power and pride they had of being a women. They stood up for themselves when others tried to put them down. They became who they wanted to become. That is the true meaning of will and power. These women gave me so much hope. I appreciate the time they gave us and I hope to see them again. 

I really enjoyed Caitlin Kenney’s presentation. There were many interesting things she said about her journey to where she is now. She began her journalism career with a lot of sacrifice. I cannot believe that she had to wake up at 2:30 in the morning to go to work. Similarly, my brother had the same schedule for about two years. I commend both of them. I enjoyed her passion for her work. Another interesting point she made was the fact that she was surrounded by males and still managed to stand out. I thought this was a powerful statement. She is a born leader, even though at one point in her life she was not aware of it. But when she realized her power, she began to go further with her career. She has a real talent for getting information out of people. I think it is difficult to approach someone and make them tell you something about themselves. It surprised me to hear that she was not interested in journalism, but then found her passion for it after working at a radio station. She has raised awareness for many things that are overlooked or not looked at all. I am glad we had a chance to get to know her.
