I wanted to show some of the collar/ID tag stuff that I have found useful, but Yvaine was very helpful, which slightly hampered my ability to get clear photos. I think they eventually came out all right, despite her insistence on helping.
I recently replaced the Spaniels’ collars. The new ones (by “Max and Neo”) have nice reflective stitching which is helpful in the dark. I took a photo with flash to show the reflective, it’s very nice. They also have one little loop for tags and a separate large loop for leashes. Nifty design. (bought on amazon)
I keep their tags on those tiny oval carabiners, the Coastal “EZ Change ID clips.” They don’t hang down very far, which is great on a smallish dog. Yvaine’s is four or five years old and still working great. My dogs used to lose a tag every six months or so when either the S-style or keyring-style tag holder that came with the tag would snag on something and get pulled out of shape. These little oval things have never snagged on anything. (bought on amazon)
Their tags have my address/phone and their microchip info + microchip 800-number on them, so they can wear just one ID tag daily (to reduce tag jangling). Their rabies tag/original microchip tag are on their harnesses, because they wear their harnesses every time we leave the farm. (custom tag printed at keyring.com, bought several things there for convenience)
To further reduce clanking, I have a “key collar” around the ID tag. There’s a blue one around Merlin’s ID tag, on that blue collar, and a loose purple one on the blanket. You can also find these shaped for various dog tags, bone shapes & so on, but I don’t know what they’re called when actually made for the purpose. You can usually find key collars in hardware stores next to the key duplicating machines. (bought a lot of key collars at keyring.com)
I have a bunch of tags that just have my phone number on them, for attaching to the horses during hurricane season (braid into mane/tail, etc), to clip to halters, or in case of random unforeseen emergency. (also printed at keyring.com)
