Kevin Roche, 1975

This past weekend Pritzker Prize-winning architect Kevin Roche passed away at the age of 96. Roche designed a handful of buildings around New York City over three decades. Born in Ireland, Roche started his professional career working for Eero Saarinen and Associates in 1950. After Saarinen died in 1961, Roche finished the architect's designs for the TWA Terminal at JFK Airport and the CBS Building in Midtown. Roche went on to start his own firm in 1966 with John Dinkeloo, where they designed the Ford Foundation's Midtown headquarters, the postmodern 60 Wall Street for JP Morgan, and the Metropolitan Museum of Arts American Wing, roof garden, and European sculpture wing additions.
