"Hair paddles are what we called the sea monster version of hair. Each paddle was sculpted from a few set topologies. Luca had the most hair paddles at 60.

Imagine going through The Change for the first time and you grow extra fingers and toes. Our transformation artist Seth created one mesh that could warp into both human and sea monster shapes.

The Characters department pitched several ideas for this Air gag as the initial gag would have been too expensive. @sketchcrawl chose this one. The bug is only seen in this shot.

The toes on our humans had an extra joint than what usual Pixar characters have. This allows for more dynamic posing of the feet and toes.

How many people jumped when Uncle Ugo appeared?! I love this model and rig by Sal. Each organ and rib had controls for animators to move them around inside of Ugo's body.

Here's Ercole! Art gave each character in the movie a prominent feature and Ercole's is definitely his lips. He's the only human that has any amount of volume to his lips.

Giulia was designed to always be "in between" Luca and Alberto. Eye size, height, foot and hand size, age - Giulia is always the middle of the 3 in those categories.

At one point in this shot, Ercole’s mouth is opened so wide that his far ear ended up in his mouth. We went in and cleaned it up. Love the silhouette poses Animation achieved on this show.

Our artist Omar suggested that Concetta's mole transform into a limpet. Dee liked the idea so much that the limpet kept getting bigger and bigger on the sea monster's face.

On Wednesday, April 1st, Kevin Singleton gave us a lesson on the G.A.P. Principle.

The gap is the space between where you are and where you feel you're called to be.

The G.A.P. principle: G: Goals--set goals, make them measurable A: Application--you have to actually apply yourself to working toward the goal P: Persistence--anytime you attempt to close that gap you're gonna fail. And when you do you need to have persistence. What are you gonna do when you make a mistake?

-Prepare your minds for action not just prepare your minds to prepare your minds. --We need people at markers along the path of our race where we're most vulnerable who can be there to encourage us. John 3:3 NIV

-Just because you can see the door doesn't mean you're through it. Philippians 1:6 NIV

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

-Another version says, "Do not let these words depart from your mouth." -Talk about the Word all the time. -You are the only person who can "do not let" for you. What is your learning genius?  -The Word needs to be in your conversation. But don't get so knowledgable that you start to condemn people. Then people won't want to join you in your worldview. -Meditate: study, memorize, rhumenate  -You can meditate through music or memorization.

Words have power. And God often uses music to carry messages around the world.

On Wednesday, March 6th, 2013, Kevin Singleton spoke to us about his personal experiences and how to prepare our minds for action.

The book God's Generals talks about many revivals throughout history. Many were sustained through an individual personality. But they died because people fail and die. -The only perfect church is the one with no humans in it. -Our church is not built on one personality.

Some intelligent Christians are so mean that it turns off people from wanting to know their God. -There's an Indian proverb that says: "Why cut off someone's nose and give them a rose to smell?" -A lot of times people will watch what we're doing more than what we're saying.

1 Peter 1:13 NIV

Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.

-If you make a mistake and you don't set your hope on grace, you'll give up.

Old Deluder Satan Law 1647:

It being one chief project of that old deluder, Satan, to keep men from the knowledge of the Scriptures, as in former times by keeping them in an unknown tongue, so in these latter times by persuading from the use of tongues, that so that at least the true sense and meaning of the original might be clouded and corrupted with false glosses of saint-seeming deceivers; and to the end that learning may not be buried in the grave of our forefathers, in church and commonwealth, the Lord assisting our endeavors. It is therefore ordered that every township in this jurisdiction, after the Lord hath increased them to fifty households shall forthwith appoint one within their town to teach all such children as shall resort to him to write and read, whose wages shall be paid either by the parents or masters of such children, or by the inhabitants in general, by way of supply, as the major part of those that order the prudentials of the town shall appoint; provided those that send their children be not oppressed by paying much more than they can have them taught for in other towns. And it is further ordered, that when any town shall increase to the number of one hundred families or householders, they shall set up a grammar school, the master thereof being able to instruct youth so far as they may be fitted for the university, provided that if any town neglect the performance hereof above one year that every such town shall pay 5 pounds to the next school till they shall perform this order.

-This law was created so that any time there are 50 people in a town, there will be a school so they can read and write and understand the Bible. This is the history of public education in America. --God used Daniel and his friends to serve Nebudcadnezzar without losing their convictions. -Kevin serves at school without saying the name of Jesus. Everything he would say would be based on Scripture without actually saying it. He decided to do it this way because of their misinterpretation of the separation of Church and State. But this way, he could still watch Jesus still do the miraculous.

Here are some things Kevin used to teach the kids: 1) Success doesn't mean you don't fail. It means every time you fail, you try again. Every time you fall, you get up. Proverbs 24:16 NIV

for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again,     but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.

Philippians 3:12-14 NIV

But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

-He lived this in the public schools without saying that they're from the Bible. 2) If you want to accomplish something, it takes hard work. Proverbs 14:23 NIV

All hard work brings a profit,     but mere talk leads only to poverty.

-Profit means you have more now than you started out with. -The Bible works whether you know it or not or whether you want it to or not. 3) The law of the harvest:  Galatians 6:9 NIV

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

-You always reap later than you plant and it's greater than what you planted. The seed gets planted, there's time, and then there's the harvest. -When you do wrong things you may think that the time that passes means you're getting away with it. But there's always time and the harvest is always greater than the little seeds you planted.  --Kevin tells a story about a girl who was told not to leave her school campus. But her home was across the street. She would cross the street and go home every day for lunch. She didn't listen and did it for a year and a half. One day she crossed that street and was hit by a truck. Her foot was crushed and had to be amputated. -The opposite is true also: Kevin shares how he used to get to basketball practice 15 minutes early and leave 15 minutes late. Because of that, he was picked to play over the players that had natural ability. Those small decisions allowed him to travel the world.

We're in the midst of a revival. Kevin compares it to the Welsh Revival which hopped over to L.A. during the Azusa St. Revival but didn't last because the foundations weren't as strong as they should have been. -We have the opportunity to strengthen our foundations. We need to go back to the basics before moving on.

James 1:22-25 NIV

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it--not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it--they will be blessed in what they do.

There are 6 elementary teachings of our faith (as outlined in Hebrews 6:1-3 NIV): 1) Repentance from acts that lead toward death -Greek word for repentance is "metanoia" which means "to change your mind". --"re" means to do it again --"pent" means the top view --Go back to God's view of the situation -How do you find out God's view? Read his word. --Reading his word is not about you feeling good about accomplishing something; it's about finding yourself in this word. -When you change your mind, you change your actions. Acts 2:38 NIV

Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

The Power of Worship.

The wave of a church that has a culture of worship. How you can take this out and create your own wave. Kevin's friend Kevin helped create Sobe drinks because he was interested in creating a health drink that would create it's own wave.

Eric from the epic movie Chariots Of Fire says: "The Lord made me a missionary but he also made me really fast so I feel his pleasure when I run."

God made you to do something. Wherever you are, you can feel his pleasure in whatever you're meant to do.

You carry heaven so wherever you walk into becomes heaven. Feeling the presence of God in whatever field you do.

Kevin and Elevate New York.  Lots of stories yeah man. Everytime you go, worship is an act of all life.

When you hear a teaching or truth - all of us are at a different place in owning truth. Theres illumination and then revelation where you can understand and teach others but the highest goal is transformation where truth changes you. Some ppl are a manifestation of generosity.

Appraisal. Appraise this thing - tell me what its worth. An appraisal of a house - how much is it worth? So praise and worship is telling Jesus how much he is worth. Your worship tells ppl too how much Jesus is.

Just like women want their fiancees to tell them how much they're worth by buying a diamond.

Just bc you don't understand it doesn't mean it isn't true.

Lots of things in the bible don't make sense - but just because something doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean it ain't true.

Gravity is true - and his cousin Xander defined the law of gravity by saying “Cookie” lol because his epistemological framework was defined by cookie. He couldn't understand gravity but gravity doesn't care if Xander likes or knows what it is.

2 Chronicles 20:1-23

The battle is not yours but its God's then quit fighting and let God fight it. But you do have to stand at your position and stand firm and watch God fight.

Poverty mentality.

They see God and God says get some men to sing at the front of the army. That's really bizarre and nutty military strategy. But as they began to sing and praise, God set ambushes against the three invading armies and they destroyed each other.

When you raise your hands its an international sign of surrender - but thats also a sign of hiding nothing. We have a problem with emotional skepticism but we should bring the passion to God.

We have this ability to lift our hands and praise Him. We think the praise song will be aggressive and shouting the enemy down but God has the Israelites sing a love song of thanks to Him - how faithful he is to us.

LACK OF FAITH CAN HINDER THE HAND OF GOD.

Not always but it can. Mark 6:4 - in his own hometown Jesus had no honor. He was amazed at his hometown's lack of faith. These ppl saw him grow up and they were familiar with him and he could not do any miracles there.

Can I use the bathroom? Can you? Ability vs. permission. A miracle. Instantaneous. People could not do it - we are talking about Jesus, the most powerful thing in the universe, He could not do anything. The Mt. Palomar observatory can see trillions of stars. God who spoke the stars and knows all their names - He was stopped by a lack of faith. (This is a very Brian Eno moment.)

Man I wonder how I could amaze God? Lack of faith. Haha.

Mark 5: 21-24

The woman healed by touching Jesus' robe. Jesus said don't be afraid - believe. sometimes you have to ignore people and sometimes ppl will laugh at you.

Changing it from an atmosphere of death to life. God wants us to be people who don't just catch a wave or atmosphere to creating the wave and atmosphere wherever we go.

Isaiah 9:7 ESV

Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

-God's nature: increasing in government and peace

Ephesians 3:20 NKJV

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us...

-When you relate to God, peace increases in your life.

"Oikos" is Greek meaning "the people around you." --Often we have influence on people without knowing it.

Proverbs 3:1-4 NIV

My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.

-What you hear isn't just for you.

Hebrew definition of a "leader" is synonymous with "hero": someone who breaks through a barrier or lifts a canopy of oppression so others can reach their destiny. -Jesus did this. He lifted the canopy of oppression and of death. -God is calling us to break oppression.  -In 1954, Roger Bannister was the first person to run a mile in under 4 minutes. That same year others were able to do the same and even break his record. It all starts with one person opening the floodgates for the world.

L: A leader LOOKS behind him to understand who's following him and why they're following him. -There are inferior leadership styles: 1) intimidation 2) manipulation 3) inspiration --Inspiring someone means to put your spirit into a person. You have to continuously outdo yourself -Superior leadership style: Matthew 20:28 NIV

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

--How do I serve this company? Staff? Students? How can I help someone else be better? That's the best way to lead.

E: Leaders ENCOURAGE. -"en" = in -"courage" = heart --"Encourage" means to place your heart in the people following you. Put your passion in the people following you. Transplant your heart into them. -Bring people higher so they have a new perspective. --Education without integrity gives people improved means to do evil.

A: Leaders have a high ADVERSITY quotient. -Everyone in the world has adversity in their lives. What's adverse for you might not be adverse for someone else. --Christians get adversity but we have peace and hope through the persecution. --The higher your adversity quotient, the better you will outperform, out-exist, exceed people who have lower adversity quotients. They're superior problem solvers. -4 Ways to Develop Your Core And Increase Your Adversity Quotient: --C: Control. When an adverse situation hits your life, how much does it control you? How much do you let Jesus control you? --O: Ownership. Sometimes we bring things on ourselves and we need to own up to it. --R: Reach. When adverse situations happen in one area of life, it doesn't have to reach into another area. --E: Endurance. When an adverse situation happens, it won't last forever. You can endure it.

D: A leader's DESTINATION is clear. -They know where they're going. Sometimes it's because they've been there before so they can take you there. -Your destination will determine your current actions. -Myles Munroe:

 Everything was created for a purpose... If you want to know the purpose of a thing, don't ask the thing... The purpose of the thing is in the mind of the creator... Where purpose is unknown, abuse is inevitable.

 Kevin sites the Welsh Revival of 1904 that led to the Azusa Street Revival which he believes is like what we're seeing today in NYC.

1 Peter 1:13 NIV84

Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

-Challenge your mind to be active. -Epistemology: it's not what you know but how you know what you know. --framework for presuppositions --We believe what we believe through this framework. It creates worldviews for different cultures.

Hebrews 5:14 NIV

But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

-Mature people train themselves constantly.

Indian Proverb: There are two ways to touch your nose. One is the most straightforward. The other is by going around your head and touching your nose from the other side.  -People get saved in different ways: emotions, experience, or evidence. 

Romans 14:17 NIV

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit...

-Peace and joy are experiential. So 2/3 of the kingdom of God is an experience. --They're also emotions that 95% of NYC don't have.  -If you're the kind of person that needs evidence, don't knock the experientials.

The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict (by Josh McDowell): -The Bible was made from an extant copy. A bibliographical test of authenticity shows that the interval between the original copy and the first extant copy is negligible. The time between these two documents for the New Testament is about 50 years which means first-hand accounts were easily attainable--unlike documents about Herodius, Caesar, etc. -You can do an archaeological dig and find places from the Bible. -Experts still believe that it is the most reliable ancient document we have even if you don't believe in Jesus. -The Word of God is a primary source. 

It is better to abbreviate than eliminate when reading the Word of God. If you don't have an hour, read for 25 minutes.

3 Things to Read in the Bible: 1) The Psalms Acts 13:22 NIV

After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: 'I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.'

-If David was a man after God's own heart, it might be worth finding out what David did. -2/3 of the Psalms are written by David so it's like listening in on love letters between him and God. Psalm 9:1-2 NIV

 I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.

 --Talks about worship Psalm 13:1-6 NIV

How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, and my enemy will say, "I have overcome him," and my foes will rejoice when I fall. But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord's praise, for he has been good to me.

--After all his frustration, he still praises God. --He sings through his frustration. --Worship through the pain. You don't get wine without crushing grapes. Worship produces a special anointing. Psalm 22:1-5 NIV

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish? My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find no rest. Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises. In you our ancestors put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. To you they cried out and were saved; in you they trusted and were not put to shame.

-Read at least one Psalm a day. Then you'll understand the heart of God. 2) Proverbs -There are 31 Proverbs--that's one a day. -etymology: "pro" means in front of or before and "verb" means action. "Proverbs" tell you actions in life before they happen --Tell you how to respond to things before they happen 3) Repetitive Reading -Pick a section of the Bible and read it over and over again until you get it. 1 Corinthians 10:11-13 NIV

These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come. So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

--This is the in context of a history lesson: 1 Corinthians 10:1ff NIV

For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea...

--This is saying, "What happened to them will happen to you so you need to study the history of how they escaped." -Read until you own that part of the Bible.
