Cheers quickly erupted; the stadium was alive with energy as Kenyu Yukimiya's decisive goal hit the back of the net. The ball soared past the goalkeeper in a perfect arc, and for a moment, the world seemed to pause before the roar of the crowd erupted. His teammates rushed to him, shouting in celebration as their high school soccer club (Soranin High School) had finally claimed a hard-fought victory.
But as Kenyu raised his arms to acknowledge the fans, his eyes instinctively scanned the stands, searching for a face he knew wouldn't be there.
Your face.
ꫂ❁
You had texted earlier to apologize for missing the match because your family was moving. Still, he couldn't help the flicker of disappointment that tugged at his chest.
He tried to brush it off as he returned to the locker room, the buzz of the win fading slightly. Alone in the quiet space, he picked up his phone and re-read your guys' messages.
ꫂ❁
Notifications: 2 new messages from Y/N
You: Hey Ken!! ^^ How'd your game go??
You: Sorry I couldn't make it!!! I got busy today
He typed a quick response, trying to keep his emotions in check.
Kenyu: Hey dear, no worries. My game went well. We won the match.
Kenyu: Do you wanna stay the night at my apartment?
He stared at the message for a second long before hitting send, thumb hovering over his phone. He missed you. He missed your warmth, your laugh, and the way you’d always look at him like he was the only person in the world.
Yet, he couldn't shake the lingering frustration that they hadn't been there for such an important moment.
ꫂ❁
The day had been exhausting.
Moving was chaos, and your parents had been relentless about keeping them involved. You had wanted nothing more than to just sneak away for a few hours to watch Kenyu's match, but every attempt had been met with a firm "no."
After hitting send, Kenyu stared at the screen, the soft hum of his teammates' laughter fading into the background. A familiar ache tugged at him, a yearning he couldn't suppress.
You sat cross-legged on your bed, surrounded by boxes that loomed like silent judges waiting for a verdict. Moving had been exhausting; every minute was swallowed by your parents' insistence on unpacking and organizing, and oh, how you had tried desperately to sneak away to catch Kenyu's match, but every attempt met with the firm answer.
The verdict placed upon you by your parents now caused that guilt to gnaw at your chest as you read his text.
Setting the phone down, you sighed. You could feel the tension between you and Yukimiya, unspoken but palpable, and it left both of you restless.
As you continued to sit in your new room surrounded by boxes, you just stared at your phone, guilt pooling in your stomach.
You just knew Kenyu had to be upset, even if his texts didn't show it (he had always watched the way he texted to be sure he’d never worry you).
You: Yeah, sure! I'll be over there by nine!!! Sorry, again, I wasn't able to make it, Ken!
With your reply finally sent, you set the phone down and sighed.
Your unresolved issue and his are slowly making their way to the surface, as, deep down, you secretly hoped that seeing him would ease the tension you felt growing between the two of you over the past few weeks.
ꫂ❁
You had arrived a little after nine, clutching your overnight bag. You were going to knock, but the door had already opened in anticipation, like he had seen you coming. Kenyu stood there in a gray hoodie and sweatpants, his chestnut brown hair slightly messy and round glasses resting on his nose; they weren’t square and slanted like his on-the-field ones.
His sunset-colored eyes softened when he saw you, but there was something restrained in his expression that you immediately sensed from him before you stepped inside.
"Hi," you said, now stepping inside.
"Hey," Kenyu replied, his tone neutral. He closed the door behind you and lingered by the entrance for a moment before following you into the living room.
The atmosphere felt... off. There was warmth in the way Kenyu looked at you. Still, it was laced with a tension that neither of you wanted to acknowledge, even when it was just him opening the door before you had signaled you were there; nevertheless, Kenyu just offered a small smile and gestured toward the couch.
"Sit. I'll cook something for us," he said, disappearing into the kitchen before you could protest, leaving you to sit in his living room alone, your hands gripping the side of the couch as your mind started overthinking about what would or could happen when you came back.
ꫂ❁
The clatter of pots and pans echoed in the apartment as Kenyu moved around the kitchen with practiced ease. You now moved to sit at the island table instead of in the living room, watching him. Despite his calm demeanor, the way he chopped vegetables and stirred the pan was sharper, almost mechanical.
"You seem... tense," You said, your hands hesitantly absentmindedly lifting and pulling down the corners of your fingernails.
"I'm fine," Kenyu replied shortly, not looking up as he resumed chopping and stirring away.
The tension in the air was palpable, and your stomach twisted with a burning sensation. You so desperately wanted to bridge this gap, but every attempt felt like it would only push him further away.
When dinner was ready, Kenyu set the plates down on the main part of the island table with a quiet "here." You both ate mostly in silence, the occasional clink of utensils the only sound between them.
But as you both cleared the table, Kenyu reached for a glass to rinse in the sink. His hand slipped, and the glass fell, shattering against the counter.
"Shit," he muttered, quickly grabbing a towel to clean up the mess.
ꫂ❁
You stood by the kitchen island, watching Kenyu as he carefully cleaned up the broken glass, the quiet tension hanging between you both like a thick fog.
Concern twisted in your chest, and you still couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong ever since today had come. "Are you sure you're okay?" You suddenly asked, your voice barely above a whisper yet obviously searching for answers. "Ever since I got here, you've seemed... upset. Did I do something wrong?"
Kenyu froze, the sudden stillness in his movements speaking volumes. He set the last shard of glass aside with a deliberate slowness, avoiding your gaze as his fingers trembled, the guilt Yukimiya had felt for being upset at you and the guilt of knowing it’s not your fault...
"No. It's not you, okay?" His voice was steady, but there was an underlying edge to it, a sharpness that hinted at something unsaid.
Your heart clenched, eyes searching his face for any sign of the truth, as he always told you the truth. You stepped closer, your voice trembling with the weight of unspoken fears. "It doesn't feel like it's not me," you whispered, the words slipping from your lips in a soft, vulnerable tremor.
"You've been distant the whole time. If something's wrong, tell me."
Kenyu exhaled a shaky breath, his posture slumping as though the conversation itself was a burden too heavy to carry. He leaned against the counter, his hands bracing the surface as if the weight of the situation was physically pressing down on him. "You weren't there," he said, the words coming out in a strained whisper. "I understand why you said you couldn't come, but... I wanted you to be there. It was a big moment for me, and you weren't there."
Your chest tightened, frustration bubbling up from deep within as the root of the problem was finally shown. You took a step back, hurt flooding your voice. "I couldn't be there," you emphasized, the words sharp and edged with pain. "I told you my parents wouldn't let me leave. Do you really think I didn't want to be there? I wanted to be there, Ken. But I couldn't."
Kenyu's jaw clenched, his hands curling into fists at his sides. He turned towards you, his eyes dark with emotions (trying to consider what you could be feeling as well), but the way his voice rose... it was in a way that made your heart falter.
"It just felt like I wasn't a priority," he admitted, his voice raw, breaking under the weight of his unspoken pain.
There it was.
Your breath caught in your throat almost instantly, your eyes stinging with the tears that you were desperately trying to hold back because you wanted to be able to hold a conversation with your boyfriend without crying and choking up.
“Do you even love me?" The question slipped out before you could stop it, your voice shaky and repetitive with the hurt that had been building inside you from the beginning of the morning. "Because right now, I don't feel it. I'm always the one reaching out to you. I get that you're busy with soccer, but I had to move. That's why I wasn't there. Trust me, I wanted to be there, but my parents wouldn't let me, no matter how hard I fought or begged the whole day!!"
Kenyu's eyes widened, guilt washing over him in an overwhelming rush. "Love.. don't say that," he whispered, his voice cracking with the vulnerability he had been keeping buried. He stepped closer, the space between you both narrowing with each hesitant movement. "Of course I love you."
"Then why does it feel like I'm the only one trying?"
Your mumbled voice was barely above a whisper. Doubt crept into your words, curling around your heart like a vine, squeezing tighter with every passing second. Your eyes shimmered with unshed tears, the raw ache too much to bear in silence any longer.
"Because I'm an idiot," Kenyu confessed, his voice breaking as he moved closer. His hands trembled as he reached out to you, his gaze filled with regret and longing. "I'm sorry, okay? I've missed you so much, and I let it get to me. I never wanted to make you feel like this. I've been selfish and not considering you and how you feel."
You looked up at him, your gaze filled with an aching tenderness drastically different from the state you were in when you arrived. The tension between you two seemed to vibrate rather than with the words you'd finally said, heavy and thick, but Kenyu reached out, his voice low and full of raw emotion. "Just shut up and kiss me," showing how your conversation obviously lacked action now.
Before you could respond, his lips were on yours, gentle yet urgent, as if he were trying to convey all the words he couldn't say with the pressure of a single kiss. His hands cradled your face, his thumbs brushing away the stray tears that had escaped your precious eyes. His touch was soft, steady yet full of an intensity that made your heart race and beat for him.
Your fingers gripped the fabric of his hoodie, pulling him closer as if they could erase the space that had grown between you and him over the past few days. The kiss deepened, both of you desperate and wanting, like Kenyu were trying to reclaim something that had slipped through his fingers. The world outside disappeared, leaving only the warmth of your bodies and the unspoken connection between you. For a moment, nothing mattered except the now shared understanding that they were rebuilding something precious, something that had never really been broken, just lost in the chaos.
ꫂ❁
Nothing could have prepared either of you for when you both finally pulled away, breathless and consumed by the storm of emotions swirling between two bodies. Kenyu's forehead rested gently against yours. His eyes were closed, his chest rising and falling with a quiet intensity. His voice was barely a whisper, thick with emotion. "Let me show you how much I love you," he murmured, his lips brushing against yours once more in a soft, lingering kiss. His hands slid down to your waist, pulling you closer as he then sank to his knees, eyes locking with yours with a vulnerability that made your heart ache most beautifully.
The tension that had built up over the past days began to unravel, and in that moment, you both understood what had been left unsaid. It wasn't just about the distance, physical or emotional, but about the space that you had allowed between you both. And in that space, both you and he found something deeper: a love that wasn't defined by circumstances, but by the strength of your bond.
"Do you want to?" Kenyu asked, his eyes filled with tenderness as he looked up at you with a reassuring smile. "If you don't want to, we don't have to. I’ll stop now if that’s what you want.”
Your voice wavered with uncertainty as you looked at him, your heart pounding in your chest. "I don't know..."
"Alright then, you don't have to," Kenyu said quickly, rising to his feet with a speed that matched his sudden rush of emotions. He leaned in, trying to steal a quick but passionate kiss, only for you to stop him as you fixed his messed-up glasses to sit properly across his face.
"It's not that I don't want to," You explained shyly. "I just... don't know how to do that stuff."
Kenyu let out a soft laugh, full of warmth and affection. "You have no idea how precious you are to me," he said, his voice gentle. He reached for you, his hands settling on your waist again in a soft, reassuring touch. "Don't worry. I can show you how... if you let me."
Your breath caught as you looked at him again, your heart racing with a mix of uncertainty and curiosity. "Show me?"
Kenyu nodded, a small, shy smile playing on his lips. "Yes..? You know that I want to do more than kiss you.. right?” His fingers traced gentle hearts along the back of your hand, his touch deliberate yet tender. "I've read... I've studied. Because I want to give you everything you deserve. I want to give you pleasure the kind of pleasure you've never felt, the kind of pleasure that only I can give you."
Your breath hitched for what felt like the twentieth time that day, your heart also fluttering at the intensity of his words. "You've done this before?" You asked softly, your voice clearly filled with curiosity and apprehension.
Kenyu chuckled lightly, the sound rich with sincerity. "No," he admitted, shaking his head with a gentle smile. "I've never done this before." He met your gaze, the openness in his eyes belying his vulnerability. "But I've spent a lot of time learning. I want to make sure I don't mess it up. I want to give you everything the good, the overwhelming, the beautiful. I want to show you how much I love you, not just with a kiss, but with every touch and every moment."
You glanced at him for a second, absorbing his words as they settled deep inside you. For a long moment, you didn't speak. Then, without saying a word, you looked back at him and leaned forward, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to his lips, a kiss that spoke volumes about everything both parties had been too afraid to say.
Kenyu responded, deepening the kiss with a quiet hunger, his hands cradling your face with such care, as if he were afraid you’d shatter under the weight of his shallow emotions. "Let me show you," he murmured against your lips. "Let me show you how much you mean to me and not just by telling you to shut up and kiss me..." His voice was thick with yearning as he kissed you again and again, his hands starting to explore with a tenderness that felt like an unspoken promise.
As he lowered himself to his knees again, his hands working gently to unbuckle your pants, he whispered sweet, intimate words that made your heart race, each syllable an invitation to something unknown but deeply desired. It was an unfamiliar act to both of you, yet somehow it felt like everything you ever avoided, every ounce of tension, melted away in the slow rhythm of the breath you both now shared.
In that moment, nothing else existed except the two of you bound by a fragile yet undeniable love, a love that neither could deny, no matter how far they had wandered from one another.
