Man I would kill for one of Tiffany Patterson’s or Kenya Wright’s books to get turned into a movie or series but then I’m like no one capture the intensity of those characters.

kenya has a new book out and it's set in the same universe as dima but idk yet if i wanna read it because i've been in a reading slump for months. but then against she has oftentimes been one of, if not the only one, to bring me out of that 🤔
some ah dem folks does be reccing dark romance books and dem shit doh be impressive at all. man is a so-called mafia lord feared by all but he biggest crime is torturing a man. okay? kazimir blew up a neighbourhood just because one of the men who pissed on his mother's grave happened to live there. then he did the same to all the members of that man's organisation. and that's only one instance. not to mention the fact that his love interest, the star of the books herself, is a fucking serial killer.
jean-pierre literally slices and dices people with a violin bow. misha shut down the power in japan just because a hit was put out on his girlfriend. and then the three of them together collectively laid waste to italy because the people there were fucking with kazimir's wife.
stop touting your shit as dark romance and that the men are supposed to be big and bad when the height of their violence is torturing a few people or posturing about how 'powerful' they are. if you're going dark, give me violence. i want criminal minds and blacklist level depravity. this is why kenya wright remains on top in that genre for me.
authors i would read 85% of the time without question as long as they were writing it (that is, even if the summary didn't quite grip me):
kenya wright - without a doubt absolutely. a good percentage of my bookshelf is written by her. the lion and the mouse cemented her place as an insta-read for me idc. only she could write a black female serial killer falling in love with a russian crime lord with intrigue, action, violence, angst and make me catch so much emotions over not just them but her side characters as well. tlatm is an erotic thriller and it does it well. 9/10 will read anything she writes.
tracy deonn - legendborn, legendborn, legendborn, legendborn, legendborn, legendborn, legendborn, legendborn, legendborn, legendborn, legendborn, legendborn. this woman's talent is in-fucking-credible i don't have enough words to say just how IMMACULATE that book is and she's serving again in november with bloodmarked.
kennedy ryan - where to even fucking begin with this woman. romance is a skill and she knows how to fucking do it. queen move was an experience that i still am reeling from. that shit felt like a love letter to me as a black woman. and there's the whole fact that she is one of the very few writers (who i can name on one hand) who can weave the intricacies of politics into a romance novel and keep me on the edge of my seat.
sierra simone - we're grown over here so i will gladly say that ms simone is my favorite smut writer of ALL time. idk how this woman does it, what crack she smokes or what wine she drinks to come up with the shit she does but good fucking god. and it's not enough that her shit has me sweating but it's also the fact that every romance book of hers i've read have left me feeling so raw afterwards (no joke, new camelot fucking destroyed me). like my perspective shifts and i feel like i discover new things about myself. still desperately waiting on that collab between her and kennedy ryan btw.
rf kuang - the only reason she's not higher on this list is that i haven't yet read babel because i want a physical copy and that's gonna take some time to acquire because it's not available in my country yet. but even with that, the excerpts i've seen of not just babel but also of the poppy war trilogy and the reviews from people whose critiques i respect, let me know that this woman is an assassin when it comes to language.
nk jemisin - another who isn't higher because i haven't yet read her books. the fifth season and the hundred thousand kingdoms are both on my reading list and the plots and everything to do with it drew my attention first. went through her backlog and yep definitely will be picking up a book if i see her name on the cover.
kimberly lemming - that time i got drunk and saved a demon is peak comedy idc. that shit was hilarious and sexy and also action packed. she's the only author i'd trust to have modern ways of speech interwoven into a medieval fantasy setting. i think i own every book she's published save for one.
honorable mentions
elizabeth lim - six crimson cranes is the first i'm going to read by her but when i evidently revisit this post i just know she'll be in the top list because the reviews i've seen of that book are just 👌🏿
samantha shannon - i should be awarded a bit with how long i actively ignored all push to read priory of the orange tree and anything to do with that book. but the reviews are way too many for me to not see what the fuss is about and i must agree that the premise is very exciting to me 😂. not to mention the prequel to it is releasing and the cover for it is gorgeous as fuck (yes a cover does influence a lot of my reading i can't help it)
saara el-arifi - my desire to read the final strife stemmed completely from seeing the special edition cover, and then i learned what it was about and i was sold. this one is just pure instinct and vibes for me alone but i smell a 5 star with this one and her becoming an insta-read author for me lol.
evelyn sola - you'd think she'd make the top list given the amount of books i have that are written by her but the problem with her writing for me is that it gets repetitive. takeover was the first book by her i ever read and that was really really good but the problem with that is that it spoiled me. i couldn't enjoy her other books the way i did that and her most recent release was very underwhelming for me. yet even with all of that if i see her name, i'm more than likely to pick it up lol.
