Basically what happened is that they reached the destination they were travelling to which is a massive temple-farm dedicated to the Earth Mother. They meet the inn keeper and deliver the bad news that his family died in the recent cloud giant attack. Hes kind of taken back but he doesn’t want to lose face in front of the customers so he offers them a room to stay as thanks and then tells them to visit the other places in the farm as the farmers consider any visitors their family. So the farmers give them a ton of vegetables and herbs and they return to the inn to sleep. Hill giants attack the farm at night but instead of helping the villagers, they decide to try to evacuate the farmers and book it except the villagers don’t want to leave the only life they’ve ever known and their families. So in the end only a handful of farmers run away with the party and the temple-farm falls to the giants even though they were actually not too difficult to fight as they would have surrendered upon reaching a certain threshold of health. Now that the biggest exporter of vegetables and salted meats is gone, the economy is pretty much fucked and there’s going to be a spreading famine which means reduced rewards, inns refusing service, more bandits and highwaymen, spiked prices in services and more people living on the streets. Robberies are going to be more rampant.
