Got a letter from our favorite Gal in Bootcamp, our very own Rachel Barbosa, Private Barbosa, a coupla weeks ago.
Finally, like yesterday finally, got around to writing her back. You see, she sent us a letter detailing life at boot camp... so I felt compelled to send her details about life at home. A bit of In Our Previous 3 Episodes...
The process underscored the importance of writing things down as they happen. Especially at my age, writing things down as they happen.
Otherwise, I have no idea what we’ve been doing since October 18. Since the day she left here for Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
As I’ve said before, the explosive things in life, life’s landmines, are super easy for me to remember. Oh yes. I can remember things that sucked. But unless we won the lotto or took a vacation, I couldn’t really tell you. And as far as vacations go, I could tell you where we went... but I couldn’t necessarily tell you all the good things we did.
Not unless I wrote them down.
Which is what I’ve been doing since August 28 of this year.
I have no doubt that, as the years stretch out, I will have lost most of my little, but good, memories. They’re here, though. I can read about them and remember that way.
And... in the short-term future, I can fill our army daughter in on what we’ve been doing this whole time.
