My first Pride ever was a success in my books, even though it rained. Pride was started by a black trans woman who started a riot and even though there’s not much of that now, we still need to start some riots for social injustices. I walked around and felt so welcomed by the smiles and genuine happiness of the people around me—a judgment free place where I could walk around smiling and laughing and hanging out with friends—without a care in the world.
