Hi! Loving your blog. I’m trying to start teaching myself Italian, but while I have learned a language before, I’ve never done it independently so I have no idea where to start. I speak Spanish fluently and French not fluently but getting there, so I find I’m able to guess/comprehend a lot of basic Italian, so I don’t really know what to start with. Do you have any tips? Thank you I hope you’re well ✨
Hey angel! First of all, thank you so much for loving my blog and also for coming to me with this question. I’m super glad that you’re learning Italian! I genuinely think it’s such a beautiful language and I’m so happy whenever I hear about other people learning it too. I don’t think there’s really a standard way to start learning a language, but I can definitely suggest some of the things that I did. So, one thing that I absolutely recommend prioritizing is learning the 1,000 most common words in Italian and learning like 100 of them everyday bcs it’s a really effective way to get you started and also with using the language.
After you’ve learned those words, I suggest using Duolingo or really any language apps out there that can help you with learning some basic vocab, phrases, and all those rudimentary things. Then, before truly diving in with your studies, I definitely advise picking out some resources that you want to use whether they be books, YouTube videos, a website, etc that can address the more in-depth aspects of the language. There’s so many good channels on YouTube and one that I particularly like is Professor Dave especially when learning tenses! Easy Italian is also really helpful. You learn a lot about the culture too. After that, you’re pretty much free to dive in to the language and make sure that you make it part of your everyday life. That can be listening to songs, watching shows/movies, etc. It’s super important! Keeping a journal is also helpful.
I hope that these tips were quite helpful, sweets! I’m sending you the best vibes for embarking on your Italian journey. As they say in HSM, we’re all in this together! Feel free to update me on how it’s going or if you just wanna scream about Italian one of these days. I hope you’re doing well too!! 🤍✨
