One of the most challenging aspects of human relationships is communication. There are a lot of variables that can make understanding each other difficult. The same word can mean different things to different people. How the words are said, the tone of voice, where you are when they are said to you all can affect your understanding of what was said.

Sometimes we say yes when we really mean maybe. Sometimes we say maybe when we really mean no. Sometimes if we do not think the person believes us we may swear by something we feel carries weight with the other person to validate what we are saying. If we have a history of speaking the truth then there is no need for us to swear to bolster what we are saying. In today's verse Jesus gives us a simple principle of communication with others: let our yes be yes and our no be no and then do accordingly. If we say yes, then mean it and do according to the yes. If we say no, then mean it and do according to the no.

Remember when we were the same? Time has passed and things have changed, we used to see things straight, but now we can't fucking relate.
