I love time-slip novels.  Every time I write that I hear my mother’s voice dripping in derision “You don’t mean those books where they touch a stone and are back in time?”  Yes Mum,  I do.  I love ’em.  No, I don’t really think you can touch a stone and  go back in time,  but a love a flight of fancy, a bit of ‘what if’ and a wee dose of magic.  For this, I read Susanna Kearsley, Barbara Erskine, and Diana Gabaldon.

Susanna Kearsley is one of my favorites in the genre.  I discovered her first, just last year,  with “The Winter Sea,” went on to read “Shadowy Horses” and “The Rose Garden” and eagerly awaited the recent publication of “The Firebird,” which did not disappoint. But to really appreciate “The Firebird” you really should read “The Winter Sea” and “Shadowy Horses,” because the main characters are pulled from both previous books — which is a bit of a feat, if you ask me.
