â  youâre a fool of a man .   â
there is a rage in the lilt of her voice that she has not heard before . tips of fingers long dry from the heat tracing a pattern into the flesh of his arm . another holding cloth , soaked in water sheâs boiled for the germs  &  blood she isnât sure is his or anotherâs . this life of perpetual sorrow is a hand her God has dealt her but Mary cannot discern why . for what sins has she committed to deserve it ?
she need not ask , or perhaps it was the fear of knowing that kept her words silent . except for the scold that followed her caring touches towards an end to the ugliness that his appearance had taken . a shell . . . nothing more , nothing less .
for @kcptpeace .   << sc >>
she had sustained an injury earlier in the day while she was outside of the walls. slipping by without people noticing , nor the bloody arm she had. it wasnât anything to worry about since the cut wasnât too deep  (  and mia definitely wasnât bitten.  )  while she had been on one of her SCAVENGING HUNTâS , she ended up getting into a scuffle with a group of men who made camp in the next town over. these men to miaâs knowledge , and she knew them well though not personally , were dangerous. people who worked for the same people she USED to work for. itâs a long story , the truth is never really easy for some to handle. least of all during times where SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST is meant in itâs truest form.  mia goes about finding medical supplies , slipping into the area where they were kept. no one was around so she went ahead and helped herself to ransacking what was available. Â

NOTHING BUT STATIC HAS REACHED THROUGH the white noise wall of dutchâs countless radios for weeks, perhaps months. both joseph and the deputy had lost count nine days into their underground stay. thatâs when the last news station finally vanished. how can he bide the days then? prayer, meditationâthe cruelty of memory. his faith combusted with her bunker, jacobâs body was never recovered, and the father can still hear johnâs death broadcast from the valley.       FATHER.                     can he even claim that title now?        HIS CHILDREN ARE EITHER SCATTERED OR DEAD. perhaps he has been proven right in the chaos, but what good is that if he and his faithful can never rebuild? joseph has long since accepted that he and the once-heretic are the last two living souls on earth. still, when he  e x h a u s t s  himself to the point of sleep, he makes a point to fold his hands together, knuckles white and aching with the desperate tension, and he asks the voice for some show of MERCYâplease let the good seed survive.
IT WAS DURING THIS PRACTICE AT WHAT WOULD be five a.m. on a saturday, had time not become a useless concept when the whitetails crumbled, that the static finds a voice. no, not one voice, but three. one belongs to a devout faithful, a voice which disappears within the hour beneath the fatherâs silence. another holds charlemagne boshawâs brash and ragged patchwork of vocabulary. and the third is none other than the good pastor. the latter two trade out from the same transmitter.            one quotes scripture ;              the other shares stories of that time he set a rat on fire in a library.       THEN COMES A FOURTH VOICE, SOFT BUT CLEAR AMID the static:     â i gave you everything i had. â     where it holds hope, there is also a monumental weight of contempt shelled around it. the sound brings tears to josephâs eyes, finally not for the loss he has felt since the fall of the first herald. his throat tightens around something that might have been a sob, and only then is he aware that he has all but collapsed with the radioâs mic clutched in both hands. paulâindignant, bitter, woundedâŚÂ but somehow,                                  â  youâreâŚÂ alive.  â

THEREâS SOMETHING amiss, but he canât quite put his fingers on it. WITH HIS age had come the wisdom & bond to know SOMETHING was awry with Paul. But he prefers not to press the issue so he proceeds with caution in the event that Paul recedes back into himself.Â
DEALING with the aftermath of...EVERYTHING was still a difficult pill to swallow and in the now dilapidated world they wandered it seemed all too real that they had to accept a NEW way of life.
SEVENTEEN years was nothing. It felt like A WEEK at best had passed, but fortunately such wasnât the case. THEY WERE now able to roam more freely across the bounds of Hope County...or what USED to be Hope County. All he wanted was to be let be. TO PAY HOMAGE to the grave of someone who was VERY NEAR & DEAR to his heart, but it seemed that trouble was brewing again...ALL THE TIME.
âDid something happen?â
paul smiles upon seeing his sister, faith. her presence is calming in a way and if he is honest with himself. he never thought he'd be saying that to himself, but here he is. 'faith,' he says softly with adoration laced within its tone. 'come sit with me. we have much catching up to do.'
A PEACE OF MIND wasnât something faith necessarily had anymore.  if weâre being honest,  itâs something sheâs never had.   none of which was one her mind was written in her features,  no.   THERE ARE POSITIVES to her manipulative, estranged bodily behavior â  faith still has empathy.   most of all, sheâs legitimately with all of HER BROKEN HEART,  never once lied to paul seed.   joseph seed doesnât even have the pleasure of that truest thought.   within paul, within that light that even has more passion than her angelic, SIREN LIKE ABILITIES.  paul seed is simply, in the kindest way, a beacon of hope.   unlike the word of the father, which still has only SOME OF ITâS MERIT,  while losing most of it â   paulâs words never once lost their glow.   theyâre still there to hang onto.  Â
â IâM GLAD YOUâVE INVITED me, paul.   i missed spending time with you. â   faithâs musical voice,  laced with song always, still did not have a lie hanging from itâs tongue.   YOU SEE â   faith still gardens when she finds an opportunity and between her fingers was yet another flower.   faith just sets the flower on the table,  this sunflower that PRICKED PRECARIOUSLY from a quiet corner in jessopâs conservatory,  oddly out of place for a territory thatâs meant to be sunshine.
