Despite the impressive effects for the time, this scene has always bothered me. Imagine a nuclear bomb, only far more powerful. Photon torpedoes combine 1.5 kg of antimatter with matter, which releases (you can do the math yourself with E=mc2) 2.7x10^17 J of heat. This is over 1000 times more than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.Ā
One torpedo from Voyager should have not only f*cked that Kazon fighter right up, but also vaporized the entire continent. Chakotay would never have been so foolish as to fire photon torpedoes near a populated area.Ā
