Starring Juno Temple, Kay Panabaker, Leslie Mann, and Kate Bosworth. 

Lily (Temple) and Allison (Panabaker) are two best friends trying to make the most out of their dead end town. Broken families, boredom, and desire for adventure cause the teenagers to approach a group of skaters one day at an abandoned pool. Lily, an outspoken, wild-card type- had past incidents with self-inflicted cuts on her leg (I wish they touched more on this part)- immediately is infatuated with one of the guys, Jesse. They leave, heading back to L.A., with a hoodie and a phone number left behind. So what do two young bored restless girls do? Run away to Los Angeles to find the boy that gave you his hoodie. At this point I was thinking, oh dear this is so predictable. Allison is the goody goody type, giving voice of reason. After a short life story from family friend/unknown relative about how "people are dumb and cruel everywhere," they set off for L.A. Adventures including stealing chips from a gas station and sleeping in the back of a truck happen before they spot the skaters and are reunited. Soon, they're squatting in a run down hotel and robbing perverts who they lure in through Lily. After the first robbery, Allison has had enough, fights with Lily, telling her "Fuck you" as she drives back home. Other things such as Jesse and Lily becoming closer, sharing past stories and scars as they have an intimate moment in Jesse's old family house. The real twist comes at the end when the second pervert turns out to be a fucking psycho and bashes 2 of the 3 skaters' heads in (1 of them ran away, the little pussy) and attempting to rape Lily. Just as he's about to go too far, he's shot in the back. The camera pans to Allison holding the gun, as she previously said she had shooting experience. Of course, they go home in the sunset and beach, best friends once again.

Overall, though a bit predictable, it had great acting by Juno Temple and Kay Panabaker as the unlikely best friends. It has some memorable quotes and really shows those angsty-teen feelings when it's like life and your run-down town is all there will be. Lily's self-destruction is relatable and whether it was boredom or depression, it shows that everyone needs an escape at some point, in whatever way. I wish Panabaker had more of a serious role than the cautious friend and the opening and closing lines, but at least she got to play the hero. I really like the closing line, which I suppose is appropriate after killing the mann that almost raped your best friend:

"You only get a little time between a cut and knowing how deep it is. If it's only going to be nicked, or disfigured forever. All you can do is try to stretch out that moment for as long as you possibly can. 'Cause once you know, there ain't no coming back."
