Alliyam story

Kamsa, the maternal uncle of Lord Krishna (an avatar of Lord Vishnu), conspires* to kill Krishna by

sending an elephant in musth. Lord Krishna, using “Maya”, deceives and confuses the elephant,

breaks its tusks and kills it. He performs a dance as he is killing it and this is the “Alliyam” Natyam.

*Kamsa is afraid of a curse that he will be killed by the

eighth child of his sister Vasuki. Lord Krishna is the eighth child.

நேசமாய் புல்லேனோ கழை வைத்த

போது போகுதில்லையே எனக்கொரு

தூது சொல்வாரில்லையே

ஈதறிந்தேனில்லையே என்மேல் குற்றம் யாதொன்றுமில்லையே                      வேதனுமாலு-முவாயிரரும் சூழ  விண்ணவரும்தொழ  ஆடிய பாதன்  (தெருவில்)

மெய்யென்றிருந்தேனே அவனிட சைகை அறிந்தேனே 

மையல் தணிந்தேனே பசத்திடு

மெய்யும் குளிர்ந்தேனே வையகமுய்ய பதஞ்சலி போற்றிட

சட்டென ஸ்தம்பித்த பெருங்கடல்

மூழ்கிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் ஆன்மாக்களும்

தொன்மை இரகசியங்களும்

அதற்குள் நிறைந்து கிடக்கின்றன

துளி மட்டுமே நம்பிக்கை.

அச்சங்களைத் தவிர

மீதமிருப்பது

வேறெதுவுமில்லை!

உனது அந்தக் கண்கள்

பரிசுத்த நீதியை எனக்கு

சொல்லிக்ககொண்டிருக்கின்றன

உனது இந்தக்காதலும் நேசிப்பும்

என்னுயிரில்

ஒரு தீப்பொறியை உண்டாக்குகின்றது

நான் தீயனவற்றின் கண்களிலிருந்து

பாதுகாக்கப்படுகிறேனெனில்

அதற்கான ஒற்றைக் காரணம்

உன் கண்களால்

ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறேன் என்பதே!

நீயும் நானும் பரிமாறிக்கொண்ட

விலைமதிப்பற்ற எல்லாச் சொற்களும்

பிரபஞ்ச இதயத்திற்கு

வழியறிந்து கொண்டன.

ஒரு நாள்

மெல்லெனத் தூறும் மழையாய்

அவை எம்மில் சொட்டக்கூடும்.

எமது வேர்களிலிருந்து

நாம் மீண்டும் எழுந்து கொள்வதற்காய்
