Tungkol sa “Katsuri”
Hindi ko na talaga mapigilan ang luha ko. Congratulations on your closing, Katsuri's staff, cast, and artistic team! This is my first-ever discovery of the story of Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck; and this is one of the times I am glad this is the first version of it i've ever seen. I'm sure the original book will give all its justice to it, and i'm sure the Katsuri adaptation has it's fair share of inconsistencies, but nevertheless I fell in love with Toto and George (or Lennie and George) beacause of this version. ❤️
I watched it twice to make sure I hadn't missed anything, or in hopes to find something new before reviewing it. It was heartbreaking both times, and I am never ashamed to say i shed a tear on my second viewing.
Nakakatawa nga, sa tuwing pagtapos ng curtain call sa Huseng Batute I always make sure to run out first and not be stalled by the audience slowly filing out one by one, because when I am first to come out, I am able to take pictures with the cast as they meet and greet at the Tanghalang's lobby (tsaka kasi ang mga unang lumalabas na manonood nahihiya pang magpa-picture kaya napakalaki palagi ang oportunidad ko hahahaha.)
So going back to the story, Katsuri is one of those plays that inspire me to write again. As a theater person myself, i've taken to participating in other theater roles; but when i saw Katsuri (hesitant and not excited at first) it truly inspired and encouraged me to go back to my roots and write once more. I wanted to write a story as good and as powerful as that.
Congratulations again to the Artistic Team, Staff, and Cast. OMG the cast. Can I just point out that the cast for this play is perfect? Everybody fits, everybody mastered their own character. They are all so well developed compared to past Tanghalang Pilipino plays i’ve seen! (And i mean no offense, I really just love it.) At saka gusto ko lang purihin si Marco Viaña para sa kanyang performance, at lalo na ang napaka-well-done, well developed na Toto, na hatid saatin ni Kuya Jonathan Tadioan. The innocence and the well-informed portrayal gives justice to eveyone we love in the spectrum.
Even though it had a very heartbreaking ending. We never escape the guilt and fear in George's eyes as we watch how he has to be the one to take his friend's life. An especially tearful moment, very heart-wrenching, and (as everything in the world) very scary.... With all the love, Congratulations Katsuri!

It takes a single exchange of words between George (Marco Viaña) and Toto (Jonathan Tadioan) for us to care deeply about the two laborers, w
One the best productions I've seen.
