She answered on the fifth ring. Poki picked up the phone, your face illuminating her screen. 

“Y/n?” 

“Dude… it’s friday,” You sighed, mock annoyed at your friend for forgetting your call. You watched her face drop when she realized, covering her mouth.

“I’m sorry Y/n– I’m on a live, can I call you later?” 

“Nooo let her stay,” someone whined in the background, your confusion growing with every passing second. Poki’s told you time and time again how much she hates doing lives with others, complaining whenever her management gave her collaborations.

“Since when do you do duo lives?” You smiled, half joking, only to be cut off by another new voice.

“There’s more of us” 

“Okay…” You laughed, “How many of you are there?” 

“Like six or seven, eight if you count Kai,” Hearing his name, Kai shuffled towards the frame, waving a quick hello before disappearing again.

“So,” you started, “am I hearing voices, or are there actual people behind the screen?”

“Okay guys,” Poki sighed, “the jigs up.. You can come out now.” Like clockwork, six girls shot up from behind the table Poki was sitting at.

“What the–” 

“Happy birthday..?” Poki chuckled, smiling sheepishly.

You recognized them immediately, the Katseye girls standing awkwardly on the screen.

“Oh?”

“It was supposed to be a surprise,” Poki said, running a hand through her hair. “Megan ruined it.”

Megan froze, mouth open. Lara, ever the instigator, laughed, muttering about how she wouldn't have let that slide.

“Um anyways, Y/n, this is Katseye, Katseye, this is Y/n” Kai spoke, chuckling at the chaos.

"Hi," You muttered, sheepish, "I stream sometimes."

“I know,” Manon said, “I watch them all the time.” You froze, the heat of her confession enough to make you forget your train of thought. Manon's ears burned, heat trickling up her neck when she realized what she'd said.

“I mean– I see clips of them and stuff on TikTok,” She blurted, her hands restless in her lap. Daniela, entertained at Manon’s expense, muttered a single ‘smooth’, being flipped off by the latter.

The chat was eating it up.

The live carried on, Megan asking the chat their opinions on aegyo, Sophia blasting the Wicked soundtrack, claiming the movie’d changed her life. You stayed quiet for the most part, chiming in when someone said something funny, unnoticing the way Manon stared, eyes flicking to you every few minutes. 

Yoonchae, determined to annoy Sophia, snuck up behind her, startling her, the sound she made enough to pull chuckles from several of her group members.

“Lol,” Manon muttered, completely focused on Megan's hair, braiding it in tight knots. Lara’s jaw dropped. You clapped a hand over your mouth, stifling a laugh.

“Did you just…say ‘lol’ out loud?” Yoonchae asked, giggling. Dani was doubled over, her cackles echoing off the walls. Manon groaned, dropping her face into her hands.

“God,” She muttered, “take me now.” 

At this point, you had tears in your eyes, stomach hurting just from laughing. 

“So…on that note, i think we'll end the live…” Poki said, chuckling, watching the chat say their goodbyes to different members, the girls waving as the stream ended.

Once the camera was off, the mood shifted into something more playful– if that was even possible– several of the girls mocking Sophia’s earlier comment, the latter groaning in response.

“Sorry I couldn’t surprise you the way I wanted,” Poki sighed, carrying her phone into the other room to talk.

“I had fun Poki, I liked this.” You replied, trying to reassure your friend.

“I love you Y/n, happy birthday”

“I love you too Poki.” You said, waving before the call ended.
