What I don’t understand is how an entire community of artists defends copying and theft. How can someone conceivably say ”this is ok. your work and effort isn't worth protecting in this community. the emotional pain that you went through wasn't and isn’t justified. not only that, but your work isn't even uncommon or unique enough, not complex enough to say it’s even worth defending (minimalists don’t create complex enough art.)” Even when there is pressing evidence against the person copying that is IS copying, that after months spending time with this person, after sharing with her, drawing my character in front of her, the act of copying is “justifiable” because it’s common. That after the person has even been rude and shown previous signs of attempting to copy and mimic my work, it doesn’t even matter. Does she have to be scamming me out of money? Does she have to be ripping off entire pieces of work? How much damage does she have to do for it to be considered anything worth acknowledging and condemning her for? Does she have to trace over my actual artwork for it to be copying my designs? Why do I have to make it so complex to make anyone avoid copying my work because it’s so “unique.” Why do I have to put that strain on myself because of someone else’s lack of self control and RESPECT.
