The Kate Bush story: running up that hill
In this post I will be talking about the documentary that came out a few years ago about Kate Bush called The Kate Bush story: running up that hill. This documentary did do its job of showing you how Kate's music has evolved over the years but Kate herself only appears in old footage not in the documentary itself. Other musicians and artists appear to talk about how her music has affected their life. For example Elton John said that her song she did with Peter Gabriel saved his life. This just shows how much impact she has on people. The only problem i have is that what everyone was saying was quite repetitive. It was just kind of 20 people all saying "wow this is amazing" they could've gone into more detail about it all. This documentary also showed you how Fairlight worked which could be useful for people who don't know what it is. Billboard made a comment in their article that the documentary is full of thoughtful interviews but way too many 'Bush' jokes and that they listen to her songs queued up on iphones which was strange. I think that this documentary did give a good look into how different people work in the industry. For example Kate stays out of the public eye while she writes and then once an album is released she will do a tour and music videos etc before disappearing again. This is unlike other musicians that appeared in the documentary for example Big Boi (originally from the band Outkast) is still doing tours this year and next year. Whereas Kate Bush was last seen in the public in 2014 i feel like this marks how differently people work but can still get big in the industry. If you want a brief look into Kate's life i think this is a good documentary to watch as it goes through her first album all the way through to her newest album it doesn't go into her personal life so if you are only interested in the music and the thought process behind it this is the best one to watch.
