Karl Smith is son of wealthy furniture design company boss Mr. Smith and his wife Mrs. Smith. He is known as “the most dumbest boy in North Shore High”. It is possible he has intelligence disorder as he mostly behaves as little boy. According to Greg and Regis, Karl’s father was once a first leader of the “prototype Platinums” in his teen years. His father is smart and charismatic while his mother is just as innocent and dim-witted as her son. He is fully aware that he is almost failing every class, but he has confidence with hair-styling and claims he can predict when it rains by squishing his own cheeks.

Before the proper meeting, Damien and Janis described of him to Cady, as it was revealed Karl was in same English class with Damian last year as he often asked how to spell or pronounce certain words. When Regis invited Cady to sit with him and his group, Karl was first to friendly greeting her. She internally described him as “big, innocent pup” as he curiously asked her many questions. In Chris Eisel's Halloween Party, he was seen in costume of Jerry the mouse from “Tom & Jerry”. After that Halloween party, Karl was seen comforting Regis when Shana Oman dumped him as he suggested Regis he can buy him Tacos. However, Karl was saddened when Regis berated him for being a “retard” until Cady defended him. Through the interactions, Cady managed to have Karl and Greg following her while secretly go against Regis. Later, Karl was surprised when Regis genuinely apologized for the mistreatment but he forgave the Platinums leader. When the Burn Book was published and Ms. Norbury initiated the trust fall, Karl apologized to Greg for laughing at him once when the lad had a diarrhea. When Regis got hit by a bus, Karl was the one who lead Cady to Regis who was hospitalized and told her that he has changed. Months later, he was one of the nominees for Spring Fling. He reconciled with his friends and received piece of crown from Cady.

Cady joins a new public school and befriends Janis and Damian. They warn her to avoid the Platinums, a group led by Regis George. But when this Apex Predator saved her from sleazy jocks, she had fallen for and dates him. How would she survive the animal world called "School" when she later swore revenge on Platinums leader when she learned of his promiscuous and shallow colors.
