Days of disappointment (brought to you by screenshots of me ranting to my friends about Season 7)
so pretty sure my friends are tired of hearing me rant about how bad the ending/arc 2 of the show is, so I’m finally gonna move my rants to tumblr. Also yes both my profile pictures in discord and tumblr are tributes to Leola, Leola was the best thing about arc 2 you cannot change my mind.
(Spoilers below)
ok I struggle with the moral lesson of this show, I didn’t know how to correctly summarize why I have a problem with all of it but I think this reddit post explains why the morality in the show feels off to me.
I was absolutely livid with the double standards given by the elves. Now that would be fine if the elves were continually painted as morally gray and not supposed to be likable, but these are supposed to be the good guys so of course they need to forgive everyone who’s wronged them. I’ve honestly hated the whole sunfire elf plot, not because it felt irrelevant. Don’t get me wrong it did, but if it was in a different show and written better? I would have ate it up, it was a decent plot line but as always TDP has horrible execution.
nothing to say other than what I said here.
again, nothing to say here except for what was already said (JJK is Jujutsu Kaisen, go watch it it’s good. It’s not perfect but it’s better than TDP)
this is the first thing I noticed in the ending scenes, if I could find more screenshots I would. It looked so bad and so obvious that that’s exactly what they did. It’s like they weren’t even trying in the end.
Now time for afterthoughts
also yes there’s a lot of typos in these messages, but I was both angry/frustrated and excited so I was typing fast and didn’t care about typos. That’s just how I operate.
OKAY
ending thoughts
If this post and the screenshots provided seem incoherent it’s just my reaction to season 7. I have yet to do a whole series rewatch, when I do I will take notes on what I like/dislike and what felt off to me. As of now I’m just incredibly upset about what could have been. I should have just dropped the series after season 4, but I wanted to see how it ended so..here I am.
I feel like this post encapsulates a few of my problems with season 7, not all of them but probably the most important issues. It will be a slow process but be prepared for posts covering every season of The Dragon Prince, capping them all off with a full series review.
I also made a thread on twitter however that’s mostly just a reiteration of what was said in these messages.
With all of this out of the way I’ll say what I said over on twitter (I refuse to call it X)

ok I just finished the dragon prince and..oh boy this is going to be a series of rant posts
but in short I was disappointed. I knew the show was going downhill and continued to go downhill once Season 4 was released but I stuck around to see how it canonically ended
during the final few episodes I found myself skipping scenes that lingered too long, skipping fight scenes because they were too boring.
but overall I was just disappointed. I found season 7 to be mostly fanservice with the references to seasons 1-3, especially with the avatar reference (Hello, Zuko here. scene..if you know you know).
I’m probably going to make more detailed posts about my likes and dislikes as a review of the series but that will be after an entire rewatch of the series as a whole now that it’s complete.
One major thing I can tell that hindered the story: time. Time in between seasons 1-3 and 4, the short amount of time to tell what should be a detailed story given by netflix. The other problem is there was stuff introduced that only diehard fans with every book and graphic novel would know (looking at you Through the Moon and Puzzle House), it just left so much unexplained and soon it all felt incredibly saturated with worldbuilding that felt like the inside joke we weren’t let in on…unless we bought the outside material.
I don’t hate it, don’t get me wrong. I don’t love it either, there are a lot of things that I think need fixing. I’ll be planning a sort of fix-it-fic for the series soon, so stay tuned for that.
