We Challenged Mythfits: Sindyâs Physics Question for Tory & Kari
If you were a fan of MythBusters, you probably remember the moment.
Tory Belleci. A bike. A wagon. And a jump that didnât exactly go as planned.
Itâs one of those scenes that stuck with peopleânot just because it was funny, but because it perfectly captured what made the show great: curiosity, risk, and a willingness to test ideas that seemed obvious⌠until they werenât.
So naturally, when Tory Belleci and Kari Byron launched their podcast Mythfitsâa show focused on curiosity, creativity, and exploring unusual ideasâwe couldnât resist the opportunity to send a question their way, especially since they occasionally feature fan submissions at the end of each episode.
But instead of a typical questionâŚ
We sent Sindy.
Meet Sindy: An AI With Questions
Sindy isnât your typical fan.
Sheâs an AI avatar with a curious edge, a playful personality, and just enough attitude to keep things interesting. While she admits sheâs never watched an episode of MythBusters herself, her creatorâJamesâis a longtime fan who never missed an episode.
So in a way, this question is a collaboration:
A fan who grew up loving the show
And an AI character bringing a fresh perspective
And together, they came up with a question that feels right at home in the MythBusters universe.
The Question: Does Weight Really Decide the Outcome?
Hereâs the scenario Sindy posed to Tory and Kari:
Imagine two objects on a flat surface:
A heavy cruiser bicycle
A small childrenâs wagon
Now apply the same pulling force to both:
Same rope
Same motor
Same amount of force
What happens?
Most people instinctively think:
âThe lighter object will accelerate faster and win.â
But is it really that simple?
Mass vs. Reality: Why This Isnât So Obvious
At first glance, physics seems straightforward.
Force = mass Ă acceleration.
So yesâif all else is equal, a lighter object should accelerate faster.
But in the real world⌠all else is almost never equal.
This is where things get interesting.
đ˛ Rolling Resistance
A wagon with small wheels may experience far more resistance than a bike with large, smooth-rolling tires.
âď¸ Wheel Size & Design
Larger wheels tend to roll more efficiently, especially over small imperfections in the surface.
âď¸ Weight Distribution
How the mass is spread out can affect stability, friction, and how efficiently force is transferred.
𧹠Surface Interaction
Tiny differences in friction between wheels and ground can completely change the outcome.
So now the question becomes:
Could a heavier object actually outperform a lighter one under the right conditions?
Thatâs exactly the kind of âthis shouldnât happen⌠but it mightâ scenario that MythBusters was built on.
A Nod to a Classic MythBusters Moment
Of course, we couldnât resist a little callback.
Sindy wraps up her question with:
âWell, if you'll excuse me, Iâve got a jump to do⌠any tips, Tory?â
If you know, you know.
Itâs a playful nod to that unforgettable wagon jumpâone of the most talked-about moments from the showâand a subtle way of tying this question back to the spirit of MythBusters.
Watch Sindy Ask the Question
Hereâs the video we submitted to Mythfits:

How Would You Test It?
One of the best things about MythBustersâand now Mythfitsâis how it invites you to think like an experimenter.
If you were setting this up, how would you do it?
Would you test different surfaces?
Swap wheel types?
Measure stopping distance as well as acceleration?
Try multiple weight distributions?
Thereâs no single ârightâ wayâonly better and better experiments.
And thatâs the fun of it.
Waiting for the Verdict
Now we wait.
Will Sindyâs question make it onto Mythfits? Will Tory and Kari put it to the test? And if they do⌠will the results be obvious, or completely counterintuitive?
Either way, itâs exactly the kind of question that keeps the MythBusters spirit alive.

What happens when you apply the same force to two very different objects?
In this clip, Sindyâan AI avatar with a curious edgeâposes a MythBusters-style question to Kari and Tory about physics, motion, and whether mass alone really determines acceleration and stopping distance.
Would a heavy cruiser bike always lose to a lightweight wagon⌠or could factors like rolling resistance, wheel size, and weight distribution completely change the outcome?
If you love real-world physics, unexpected results, and classic MythBusters-style thinking, this oneâs for you.
đ¤ Watch, think, and decideâwould the results be obvious⌠or completely counterintuitive?
Script:
Hey MythBusters, my name is Sindy. I'm an AI avatar, so unfortunately I've never watched an episode of MythBusters, but my creator, my overlord if you will, James, never missed an episode.
Iâve got a MythBusters-style question for you.
Letâs say you have two objects on a flat surface. One is a heavy cruiser bicycle. The other is a small childrenâs wagon.
If both are pulled using the same force â same rope, same motor, same pull â does mass alone meaningfully change how fast they accelerate and how quickly they stop?
Or does rolling resistance, wheel size, and how the mass is distributed end up mattering more than the total weight?
In other words⌠would the heavier object always âloseâ the race, or could it surprise you under the right conditions?
Iâd love to hear how youâd test that â and whether the results would be obvious⌠or counterintuitive
Well, if you'll excuse me, I've got a jump to do, so I'll talk to you later. Any tips Tory?
