The History of SIN Soda: Corrupting Thirst Since 1956
Long before SIN Soda became known for its devilish advertising, unconventional drinking traditions, and generations of devoted Sinners, there was a cobbler named Joseph Shue.
And, appropriately enough, there was a shoe.
Before the SIN
In the 1940s and early 1950s, Joseph Shue made his living repairing footwear in Riverside, Ohio. His neighborhood cobbler shop handled practically anything that walked through the door: work boots worn thin after years on the job, children's school shoes, athletic shoes, Sunday best, and countless everyday pairs in need of another chance.
Shue was known as a skilled craftsman, but he also had an unusual philosophy about his trade. He believed shoes accumulated more than scuffs and worn soles. They carried something of the people who wore them—the places they had been, the work they had performed, and the lives that had unfolded inside them.
It was an idea that would eventually become strangely intertwined with another of Shue's interests.
Beverages.
By the mid-1950s, Shue had begun experimenting with homemade soft-drink recipes after hours. Exactly what inspired a cobbler to try his hand at soda making has been lost to history, but surviving accounts suggest Shue approached the process much as he approached repairing a shoe: patiently, methodically, and with endless small adjustments until he was satisfied with the result.
In 1956, one particular batch finally met his standards.
He called it Original SIN.
The Original SIN
Joseph Shue's handwritten 1956 formula has become one of the most celebrated artifacts in SIN Soda history.
The original recipe underwent numerous changes as Shue moved from small-batch experimentation into commercial production, and the precise formula used to produce today's Original SIN remains proprietary. Nevertheless, several early handwritten versions are believed to have survived.
Those documents have become extraordinarily desirable among collectors of vintage advertising and beverage memorabilia.
Rumor has it that one of the few surviving copies of Shue's original 1956 formula was sold to an anonymous collector at a private auction in 2007 for $52,000.
Neither the buyer nor SIN Soda has ever confirmed the sale.
But the formula isn't the only piece of SIN Soda's earliest history surrounded by mystery.
There's also the shoe.
The First Sip
The story has been repeated for generations.
According to company legend, after finally producing a batch of soda he considered worthy of selling, Joseph Shue wanted to taste his creation one more time.
There was only one problem.
He couldn't find a clean glass.
What Shue did have was a cobbler shop filled with freshly repaired shoes.
So he reportedly selected one, poured in some of his newly created soda, and took a drink.
A surviving photograph believed to have been taken around this time appears to show Shue doing exactly that, while a woman nearby watches with an understandably puzzled expression.
Whether the photograph truly captures the first occurrence—or whether the story grew considerably more colorful as it was repeated over the decades—remains disputed.
Company legend maintains that Joseph Shue drank the first successful batch of SIN Soda from a customer's shoe. Whether the story is fact or folklore has been debated for decades.
What isn't disputed is what happened afterward.
Customers heard the story.
Some tried it themselves.
And what began as one cobbler's improvised drinking vessel eventually became one of the strangest traditions in the beverage industry:
The SIN Soda Challenge.
Meet Little Miss SIN
As SIN Soda moved beyond Shue's cobbler shop and into commercial production, the young company needed an identity.
It found one in a mischievous black-haired devil girl.
Introduced during the company's earliest advertising campaigns, Little Miss SIN embodied everything the brand wanted to be: playful, tempting, slightly rebellious, and impossible to mistake for anything else on the soda shelf.
With her little red horns, devil's tail, red dress, and ever-present bottle of Original SIN, Little Miss SIN quickly became inseparable from the brand.
Early advertisements promised consumers that “Temptation Never Tasted So Good!” and encouraged thirsty customers to discover a soda that was deliberately different from the wholesome soft-drink advertising of the era.
Little Miss SIN soon appeared everywhere: magazine advertisements, bottle displays, promotional signs, coolers, delivery vehicles, and point-of-sale material.
Decades later, original Little Miss SIN advertising remains among the most collectible pieces of SIN Soda memorabilia.
SIN Hits the Road
Demand soon outgrew the back room of a shoe-repair shop.
By the early 1960s, SIN Soda had moved into dedicated bottling operations, and delivery trucks carrying wooden cases of Original SIN were becoming a familiar sight throughout the region.
The company's early trucks proudly displayed both the SIN Soda name and Little Miss SIN, transforming what had begun as a neighborhood curiosity into an increasingly recognizable regional brand.
For Joseph Shue, the transition also marked the end of his career as a full-time cobbler. The Shue family's shoe-repair business continued, while Joseph devoted himself increasingly to the unlikely beverage company his experiments had created.
The cobbler, however, never entirely disappeared from SIN Soda.
His influence remained right there in the company's strangest tradition.
Every Generation Has Its Favorite SIN
By the 1970s, the SIN Soda Challenge had long since escaped the confines of company lore.
Customers were doing it themselves.
Shoes, boots, athletic footwear—and apparently even roller skates—became unlikely drinking vessels for people willing to accept the Challenge.
Vintage SIN Soda advertising from the era enthusiastically embraced the tradition. Rather than distancing itself from the peculiar story surrounding its founder, the company made it part of the brand.
The rules were wonderfully uncomplicated: choose your footwear, pour in your favorite SIN Soda, add a straw, and discover whether you were really willing to call yourself a Sinner.
What Joseph Shue would have thought about watching generations of customers intentionally recreate something he supposedly did because he couldn't find a clean glass is unknown.
One suspects he would have appreciated the irony.
From Ohio to California
SIN Soda continued to grow and evolve through the decades, surviving enormous changes in both the beverage industry and popular culture.
In the mid-1990s, the company relocated its corporate headquarters from Ohio to California as part of a broader modernization and expansion of the brand.
Riverside, however, has never disappeared from the SIN Soda story.
It remains the birthplace of Original SIN, the home of Joseph Shue's original cobbler shop, and the place where one of America's strangest beverage traditions supposedly began with a freshly repaired shoe and the absence of clean glassware.
The move west introduced SIN Soda to a new generation while allowing the company to embrace something that had always separated it from its competitors:
SIN was never supposed to behave like every other soda.
A New Face for SIN
Nearly seven decades after Little Miss SIN first became the mischievous face of the company, SIN Soda found someone remarkably suited to carry that tradition forward.
Goth musician Sindy was named the company's official modern-day mascot, becoming the first real person to assume a role historically represented by the illustrated Little Miss SIN.
The partnership seemed almost inevitable.
With her unmistakable gothic appearance, mischievous personality, and willingness to embrace the unusual, Sindy embodied much of the rebellious spirit that had defined SIN Soda since Joseph Shue bottled his first batch in 1956.
There was another qualification that made her particularly appropriate.
Sindy enthusiastically embraced the SIN Soda Challenge.
From shiny school shoes and well-worn boots to sneakers and athletic footwear, Sindy brought Joseph Shue's peculiar tradition firmly into the modern era—and introduced it to an entirely new generation of Sinners.
Little Miss SIN remains an important part of the company's identity and history. Sindy isn't replacing her.
She's continuing what she started.
Little Miss SIN started the temptation. Sindy is taking it into the next generation.
Corrupting Thirst Since 1956
What began with a cobbler experimenting with soda in Riverside, Ohio, has become a brand built around nearly seven decades of temptation, rebellion, folklore, and footwear.
Some parts of the SIN Soda story are carefully documented.
Others exist somewhere between corporate history and legend.
Did Joseph Shue really drink his first successful batch from a customer's shoe simply because he couldn't find a clean glass?
Did an original copy of his formula really change hands for $52,000 in a secretive 2007 auction?
After all these years, perhaps knowing for certain would spoil some of the fun.
One thing, however, is beyond dispute.
Joseph Shue created Original SIN in 1956.
And generations of Sinners have been finding new ways to drink it ever since.

At SIN Soda, flavor has never been about playing it safe. Cherry SIN starts with bold cherry flavor, ice-cold carbonation, and the unmistakable attitude that defines every can. But around here, tradition means adding something a little more personal.
Because some flavors can’t be bottled at the factory. Some have to be earned. Whether it comes from a hard workout, a long shift, or a day spent pushing yourself past comfortable, sweat tells a story. And at SIN Soda, that story becomes part of the final pour.
It’s not an accident.
It’s not a mistake.
It’s tradition.

SIN Water Debuts as “Holy Water’s Evil Twin,” the Newest Addition to the SIN Family
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 11, 2026 — The SIN family is expanding beyond soda with the introduction of SIN Water, a new bottled-water concept from Goth Girl Sindy built around one simple promise: ordinary hydration deserves a little more SIN.
Carrying the slogan “Holy Water’s Evil Twin,” SIN Water joins Original SIN, Grape SIN and Cherry SIN in Sindy’s growing collection of SIN-branded beverages. Packaged in a crystal-clear bottle with dramatic black, silver and red gothic branding, SIN Water brings the unmistakable personality of the SIN line to something considerably more innocent: water.
Of course, this wouldn’t be a Sindy product if it stayed innocent for long.
What separates SIN Water from ordinary bottled water is its decidedly unconventional finishing touch. In a highly unique and patented process, the water is poured over Sindy’s foot before being bottled, transforming otherwise ordinary water into something made especially for Sinners.
“People keep asking what makes SIN Water different from ordinary bottled water,” Sindy says. “The answer is simple: me.”
SIN Water. Holy Water’s Evil Twin.

You already know SIN Soda. Now it’s time to meet the newest member of the SIN family: SIN Water — Holy Water’s Evil Twin.
I wanted to create something pure, refreshing, and unmistakably me. So I took ordinary bottled water and gave it the one thing it was desperately missing — a little SIN.
The process is simple. Pour it over my foot, collect every precious drop, and enjoy. No artificial flavors. No complicated ingredients. Just crisp, refreshing water with a very personal finishing touch. 😂
Will SIN Water be for everyone? Absolutely not.
But if you’ve ever looked at a bottle of water and thought, “This could use a little more Sindy,” congratulations. Your prayers have been answered.
Probably by the wrong person.

Melanie Takes the SIN Soda Challenge with Original SIN
The SIN Soda Challenge has another willing participant—and this time, Melanie is stepping up with a can of Original SIN and a well-worn leather boot.
If you’re just joining the fun, the rules are simple: choose your favorite flavor of SIN Soda, pick three pairs of your favorite shoes, pour a little soda into each one, take a taste, and decide which shoe gives your SIN the best flavor.
Melanie went straight for Original SIN, and judging by her choice of footwear, she knew exactly what she wanted. After putting three shoes to the test, there was something about the combination of classic SIN Soda, leather, and the unmistakable flavor left behind after a long day that won her over.
As Melanie puts it:
“Leather, Sweat & SIN Soda, the perfect combination.”
Sindy chose Cherry SIN. Tiffany chose Grape SIN. And now Melanie has officially joined Team Original.
Three shoes. One SIN. Your flavor.
Which flavor will you choose?

SODA JERK: Goth Girl Sindy Gets Fizzical for SIN Soda
When SIN Soda asked me to be the face of their latest advertising campaign, I probably should have asked more questions.
Instead, I heard the words retro soda campaign, saw the little bow tie, and said yes.
That was my first mistake.
The idea sounded innocent enough: take the rebellious attitude of SIN Soda, throw it back into the golden age of soda fountains, add a little Goth Girl Sindy, and create something that looked like it had been ripped out of a 1950s magazine from an alternate universe.
I loved it.
For about five minutes.
Then somebody shook a can.
Apparently, the people at SIN Soda don't believe in doing anything halfway. If you're going to make a soda advertisement, why settle for somebody smiling politely while holding a perfectly chilled can? Where's the fun in that?
So things got fizzical.
The first part of the campaign put me behind the counter of an old-fashioned soda fountain, complete with the white shirt, bow tie, striped apron and enough Cherry SIN to make the place look like somebody detonated a carbonated bomb. By the time we finished, soda and foam were dripping from practically everything.
And that was considered the controlled part of the shoot. Next came the Pressure Test. The concept was simple: put me in the middle of a convenience-store soda aisle, hand me a can of Cherry SIN and find out just how much carbonation one photoshoot could survive. The answer is apparently none.
One can erupted. Then another. Then several more decided to join the party. Within seconds, cherry soda was flying across the aisle, foam was pouring off the shelves, and I was standing in the middle of it wondering exactly which decision in my life had brought me to this moment.
The photographer kept shooting. Naturally. Everything was sticky. Everything.
You would think that after turning a convenience store into a cherry-scented disaster zone, somebody might have decided we'd gotten the shot. You would be wrong. Because somebody at SIN Soda looked at all that foam and apparently thought, You know what needs more of this? Laundry.
And that's how we arrived at A Sticky Situation. SIN Soda. Washing machines. Me. There are combinations in life that should probably never be attempted, and I'm reasonably certain those three belong on the list. Five minutes later, the laundromat looked like a giant strawberry milkshake had developed sentience and declared war. Pink foam was pouring from the machines, spreading across the floor and sticking to absolutely everything it touched—including me.
At some point, I stopped asking questions. But after all the exploding cans, soaked clothes, sticky floors and enough cherry-scented foam to fill a swimming pool, we still needed one thing: An actual advertisement. And somehow, everything suddenly became glamorous.
A vintage gas station. Neon glowing against the evening sky. Chrome reflecting off rain-soaked pavement. An old car parked beneath the lights. A beautifully restored SIN Soda machine stocked with Original SIN, Grape SIN and Cherry SIN.
And me, holding a can like the previous several hours had been completely normal.
SIN SODA. GO AHEAD. GIVE IN.
Maybe that's the perfect ending to the campaign. SIN Soda was never supposed to be polite. It isn't about sitting quietly on the shelf next to everything else. It's loud, ridiculous, rebellious and just a little bit sinful. Which, now that I think about it, probably explains why they called me.
So go ahead.
Pick your poison.
Original SIN. Grape SIN. Cherry SIN.
Just remember one important piece of advice from someone with firsthand experience: You might want to open the can slowly.
Drink SIN Soda and show the world you're a Sinner!

SIN Soda is taking its most infamous challenge out of the soda fountain and onto the playing field with the SIN Soda Sports Challenge, a new spin created for athletes who know that real flavor isn't something you simply open from a can. It's something you earn.
The concept is simple: train hard, play harder, and when the final whistle blows, take the shoe that carried you through every sprint, every tackle, and every exhausting minute of the game. Pour in your favorite flavor of SIN Soda and let the sweat, salt, grass, and unmistakable character of a hard-earned performance become part of the experience.
For the campaign debut, Sindy takes the field with Cherry SIN, pairing its bold cherry flavor with a grass-stained soccer cleat fresh from the game. No clean shoes. No shortcuts. The SIN Soda Sports Challenge is about earning every scuff, every stain, and every drop of the flavor that comes with them.
Because anyone can drink a soda after the game.
It takes a Sinner to drink it from the shoe that played it.
YOU EARNED EVERY DROP.

I thought pouring Cherry SIN Soda into one of my favorite boots would be the fun part. Then the foam came exploding over the top, ran down the leather, and turned my kitchen counter into one big sticky red disaster. Apparently, I’m not very good at knowing when to stop pouring. 😂
But after the foam settled, there was only one thing left to do. I dropped in a straw, added a little cocktail umbrella—because obviously a boot full of soda deserves proper presentation—and took my first sip.
And damn... it was good.
The sweet cherry flavor was still there, but the boot gave it something extra. A little leather, a little saltiness from all the times I’ve worn it, and that unmistakable sweaty flavor that turned ordinary soda into something completely different. It sounds ridiculous until you taste it, but now I understand why this challenge is catching on.
Maybe the secret really is in the sweat. 🖤

Sindy Describes The Perfect Fit: Why What Clings to You Matters
Let’s be completely honest for a moment. An outfit doesn’t truly begin until you decide what is going to hug your skin. For me, that choice always starts from the ground up. Choosing the right pair of stockings isn't just a routine fashion choice—it’s an entire mood, an intimate decision that sets the tone for how I move, how I feel, and how the world reacts to me.
Some days demand absolute elegance, where only the sheerest, most delicate nylon will do. There is something intoxicating about the way a premium, high-gloss sheer catches the light, creating a flawless shadow along the curve of my leg. It’s barely there, yet it changes everything. It’s a teasing whisper of fashion that leaves just enough to the imagination.
But then, there are those other days. The days where I want something heavy, textured, and deeply personal. When I slide my feet into a thick, opaque pair, it’s a completely different kind of magic. They hug tight, holding onto everything. They trap the warmth, capturing my raw, salty essence and every bit of my natural, sweaty energy as I go about my day. Peeling those off at the end of a long night? Pure heaven. The fabric absorbs your very vibe, turning a simple piece of clothing into a sensory experience.
That exact feeling is why I couldn't just keep wearing other brands. I needed something that understood the balance between elegance and intense connection. That is why I launched my own line, Goth Girl Sindy Stockings. Whether you want the breathable mystery of our ultra-sheers or the heavy, intoxicating embrace of our thickest knits, they are designed to cling to you exactly the way you deserve.
Go ahead. Slip into something a little tighter today.
XOXO Stay Sinful
