The last thing that Katherine Pierce would ever do was get engaged or even married to someone she could care less about. No, David Whittemore was only still alive because she wanted his money and power. Once those things were in her possession, she’d haul ass out of this godforsaken town. He was a rich man, one that she found easy to manipulate, mainly because of her looks since she knew that she was a beautiful woman. Of course, David looked older than her, but in reality, the brunette had a lot of years on him and the two of them weren’t even supposed to exist at the same time. She’d been with him for a while, but she’d never met the rest of his family before. For some reason, that was a thing that David kept to himself most of the time, but Katherine didn’t want to push and make him head for the hills before she’d get what she wanted from the man. She’d been invited to a work party, which was nothing short of fancy, but she had to look the part and while her closet was full of gorgeous outfits, Katherine still made David buy her a dress for the event. Once the two had made it to the party, she’d decided that she didn’t want to constantly remain on David’s arm while he made conversation with his boring coworkers and other important people. It got dull so quickly that Katherine had to try to not doze off in the process, so to stay awake and to keep herself entertained, she strolled off to a different area. As a waiter passed her by, she grasped at one of the champagne flutes on the tray that he was carrying, taking a sip while her brown eyes scanned the room for anyone interesting to talk to. Anything would be better than being forced to talk to David’s dull as dishwater colleagues while they went on about stuff she knew nothing about and was even less interested in. God, she hoped someone out there would be interesting enough to entertain her for the night or she might just die of boredom.
