Overall theory (Jordan & Eli)
my current working theory is that Jordan and Eli had some kind of situationship(?) (im aro idk if that's how to explain it but still) thing. Eli being attached to Jordan in a way that Jordan doesn't necessarily reciprocate, and Jordan being borderline romantic to him- thus making Eli unsure but not unsure enough to detach from him more. Whether that's because Jordan was unable to talk about emotions, or because Jordan wanted to be rude, or maybe manipulative, we don't know, but that's what I believe he did.
Additionally if we bring the fact in that Eli can only talk to the redacted unit about the redacted unit. He would've probably gone into this with only Jordan as a connection to him. He would've only been able to really talk to Jordan. Maybe he didn't actually have romantic feelings, he just attached like that and assumed romance.
What would this mean for the plot?
In episode 18, Eli talks about how he needs to grieve Jordan and his anger against Jacob, obviously that's dumbed down a bit but you get it. Myself and a friend ( @itsspelledchloe ) already suspected based on this episode that maybe, had Jacob died instead, Eli would not be so sad- this is built on the fact that Eli worked with Jordan every day, and would've had to see Jacob a lot less.
With the above theory, I can support the point further, the man he is romantically attached to, even if not reciprocated, just died and he has to pretend it's fine because the brother he wasn't close to is supposedly the dead one. Additionally, in Episode 1, it is assumed by Valentine, that while together away from the group, Kane and Reyes are making out. Again, my theory above helps this fact. If the unit saw how close Jordan and Eli were, and the one they presumed to be Jordan with a "new look" they might have assumed something like Eli liking it more and something happening (again, I'm aro, I just think this is how that works??)
What does that mean for modern Kaneyes?
Personally, I'm a sucker for qpr Jacob and Eli. The basic concepts of this should work for romantic kaneyes, but this is qpr focused. I believe Eli to be demiromantic from vibes and Jacob to be aroace because the amount of actors i know that are aroace is insane, and I see it working on him, but that is VERY much a hc I don't know that it'll be canon at alllll.
I think that Jacob and Eli will have to figure out what Jacob is being asked to do at the moment- ie finding the vestige and finding out what that actually is. Not the point, I believe that Jacob and Eli will make up. Whether they are forced into that or they do it themselves, they will have to. Following this, hopefully they communicate like the adults they are and then... qpr OR whatever y'all want.
