A recent police raid resulted in the death of a police officer  & the shooting of another. What dangerous item were they after, well, someone had a syringe. This raid i was a midnight raid (as most drug raids seem to be) and as we have learned, that is a very dangerous time for the police & those in a house.

The occupants of a house are usually asleep & would be hard pressed to know that the people coming into their house at that time are cops and not criminals.

So homeowners who want to defend their property often end up shooting at police thinking they are robbers.  But anyway, why do we as a society make it illegal to have a syringe? What is the result of such a policy?

Well, it makes it less likely for heroin users to keep a clean syringe on them, with the fear if caught with it, they can go to prison. So they are more likely to borrow a dirty syringe when they are injecting, which of course increases the odds of them contracting various diseases, such as HIV. We need to treat drug use as a health problem & not a criminal justice problem.
