*supposedly writing a fantasy erotica novel* Of course, if gods fell out of the sky there would be a crisis of faith. There would be people who didn't believe that the creatures that fell could be gods because the inherent reasoning that the gods are gods in a world steeped with magic, is that the gods are infallible. On the other hand, it wasn't all the gods who fell and no one is sure how many of them did, so there would be those who would get even more fanatical believing their chosen deity was one of the 'true' ones who survived. On the other other hand, some people would definitely blame themselves/other members of the mortal races for letting/causing the gods to fall, and it would be really interesting to have a contingent of them become zealots who go after the faithful AND presumed sinners as a way of trying to force those around them to repent and make reparations in the hope of returning the gods to the sky. On the other-- where the fuck did I get this many hands? Anyway, there would also be those who may believe that gods in some form still exist, but actively seek to tear down the ones that remain either to further the goals of the mortal races or to just free them from being pawns in the games of those beings that they now know can fail and abandon them at inopportune times. And let's not forget those who would start new religions or rekindle old ones that worship things other than the pantheon of gods that were involved in the fall, people would absolutely seek out new avenues to explain their world and believe in. There would also definitely be power-hungry people who think that if gods can fall and if part of divinity can be literally claimed like objects, that they should be the first known mortal to ascend to godhood and absolutely be doing freaky unethical shot and pissing off a whole contingent of faithful people who believe that a mortal becoming a god is the ultimate blasphemy against the true gods and cannot be done AND people who believe that it IS possible for a mortal to become a god but that it is a fuck-off stupid idea and absolutely has to be stopped. All of this on top of the people who simply don't believe in anything at all and say that more energy should be focused on the true and direct things that mortals can do to improve each other's lives and the world around them rather than arguing over a conflict that happened six centuries ago. And those who only vaguely abide by whatever the most influential group in their social sphere is but without any conviction behind the beliefs, just parroting things on and allowing old faiths and traditions to be diluted and obfuscated because they never cared to actually learn the reasons or history behind them. AND--
Oh uh, right, yeah, one of the gods is possessing the corpse of a wizard who tried to claim his power for himself and he recharges his battery by raw dogging with his unintended somewhat reticent bodyguard because that is way better than sucking the life out of the very earth around them as they try to outrun as many of these factions as they can before someone unwanted takes notice of them
