Some early Kanaval celebrations in Jacmel, filmed yesterday. Crowds are a little light because people are still a bit nervous, but things are settling back into the normal stuff that happens this time of year. Jacmel in particular is known for it’s paper mache artistry, and more of the large costume pieces are made from that. You can catch a glimpse of some representations of things from Vodou as well, and the traditional djab/devil costumes (winged costumes).
After Kanaval is complete (launch of Holy Week), all the paper mache is burned.
