hola, una pregunta ¿que opinas de kaliman?
kaliman es un personaje que aparecio por primera vez en un programa de radio mexicano en el año 1963, que luego tendria una adaptacion comic, y luego a dos peliculas. no lei o escuche todas sus historias, pero escuche que en los comics tiene dos origenes. en uno de sus origenes, kaliman aparecio en una canasta miestras el era un bebe, luego fue en contrado por una persona (no me acuerdo de quien) en un reino indio (creo que el reino era original del comic, es decir que nunca existio en la vida real). en el segundo origen el personaje, kaliman es hijo de un hombre ingles (o de otro pais de europa, no recuerdo bien) y una mujer de la india, creo que los padres de kaliman mueren en esta version.
¿que opinas de su diseño? (te dije todo esto para que tengas contexto del personaje, aunque no estoy seguda si el primer origen fue pensado desde un principio, lo que si estoy seguda, es que el segundo origen fue escrito años despues de que los creadores de kaliman murieran. aunque todo lo que te conte puede estar equivocado, perdon si ese es el caso).

Hi! Thank you for your question, so I will admit I am not fluent in Spanish, so I had to do the best I could with translation apps and the little I do know- but you're asking what I think of Kalimán's design, yes?
So before I say anything at all I want to preface this with: I am white, and should not be seen as an authority on any of this. I was also completely unfamiliar with Kalimán as a character until you sent this ask.
With all of that being said, after looking through the Wikipedia page for Kalimán I saw these:
"He is the main character of the radio drama bearing his name, which depicts the adventures of Kalimán, a descendant of the Egyptian Pharaohs" "Kalimán's true origin is unknown, and never revealed in any media, which adds to the sense of mystery that surrounds his character. He is supposedly an Indian orphan, who was found abandoned in a river and adopted by Prince Abul Pasha, who hails from one of the kingdoms in the Valley of Kalimantan." "However, Kalimán not only has Caucasian features, but also intense blue eyes, one of his most notorious characteristics"
Though when I switched over to the Wikipedia page written in Spanish, which seems to be nearly completely different from the page written in English, I found this:
"Kalimán es acompañado por Solín, un niño egipcio descendiente de los faraones que admira su nobleza e inteligencia. Solín conoce a Kalimán en su primera aventura y es el único personaje de soporte constante en todas sus historias como un ayudante o como el causante de problemas por los embrollos en los que se ve envuelto, ya sea por su inocencia, su curiosidad o por su cercanía con el protagonista. La primera aventura de Kalimán, «Profanadores de tumbas», lo lleva a Egipto, en donde enfrenta a una peligrosa banda de malhechores especializados en robar tumbas y tesoros antiguos. Allí conoce a Solín y se explica el linaje de este personajes, dado que Ptolomeo XIII y Cleopatra, asesinada por César Augusto, no dejaron descendientes. Which, if I am interpreting things correctly, means Solín, his young companion, is descended from Egyptian Pharoahs, and it's likely that Kalimán was always intended to be Indian.
So with that surrounding context, I wouldn't say I'm, personally, a fan of the fact that the original writers/character designers gave him light/white skin, "Caucasian features", and "intense blue eyes".
When creating a character it's important to keep in mind their background, and in Kalimán's case that means the fact that he is most likely Indian, and proceed accordingly. With Kalimán I'd advise designing him to more intentionally reflect that. So, scrapping the blue eyes, giving him darker skin, and facial features that code him as being Indian, instead of just looking like a fairly generic white guy. I'd also suggest getting input from people who are actually Indian(though India is a very large country, so honestly you'd probably want to be a bit more specific than just 'Indian'), and having them look over the character design first, letting them give any suggestions they have, to make sure that Kalimán is an intentional and respectful depiction of the culture and background he is meant to have.
BUT! Once again, I'm not fluent in Spanish, nor am I familiar with this character, so! Please take everything I said with a grain of salt, and also seek out opinions from people who are actually from India(or Egypt, if I misinterpreted the wikipedia article). They would be much more knowledgable in regards to best practices for writing and drawing this character.
