His members were pure evil

Kai had to grind his teeth as he watched one guy after another approach HIS girlfriend and interact with her as some sort of fan service. They were obviously doing it on purpose as each one of them would look at his direction after interacting with Victoria.

He knew they were taunting him. They knew he wouldn’t dare do anything about it. In a way, they were calling him a coward. He knew it and they were right.

He had always been wary about interacting with her in public. He was aware of just how crazy some of his fans were. He always fears that they would hurt her if he gives out any indication that he likes her.

So he made a rule for himself. He must avoid her at all cost.

But he decides just for today, he will break his own rule. Every member of his group has interacted with her anyway and he with the members of her group. Fans would not be able to notice it anyway with all the “ships” that were sailing. He’ll just have to make sure he clocks in some moments with Kyungsoo just to be safe.

He follows her around the stage like a lost puppy, though still keeping a safe distance between them. This was something he does most of the times during SMTown ending stages. A fact that the rare species of people who actually like them together has noticed.

As they walk back towards the main stage to give their final bow, he listens intently to the words she was saying. He wasn’t brave enough to approach in public just yet so he knew he had to do something different to  He would nod his head at her words, waiting for the opportunity to speak up and respond to her. When he finally found his opportunity, he confidently said.

“We, EXO, don’t have back up dancers.”

He felt like the world stop when the words he spoke registered into his brain. He looked to his left and right and saw his members looking at him with disbelief. They were quick to avert their eyes on him and focuses on waving to the fans as not to alert them of anything.

“Jongin?” Taemin questions, surprised at the presence of his best friend in their shared apartment. “What are you doing here? I thought today is the day you’re going out with Victoria noona.”

“Yeah… but I decided not to go.” the younger man answered casually as he casually surfed through the channels on the television.“

"What? Why?”

“I don’t have anything appropriate to wear. She probably wouldn’t like the flowers I bought or the place and activities I got prepared.” Jongin shrugged. “This date is going to be a disaster anyway, so why even bother going right?”

Taemin walked up to his best friend and smacked him hard at the back of his head. “Idiot! Get up and get dressed this instant! You are not missing that date!”

“But Tae…”

“No buts!” Taemin glared. “You are not wasting this opportunity. I’m not going to let you chicken out on this after I spent months trying to convince you to ask her our when I observed that you liked her.”

“You didn’t observe! You read my diary, which is supposed to be a private thing, and found out!”

“I was suspicious so I read your diary jus to confirm. Besides, what kind of guy keeps a diary anyway?”

“That's… beside the point. I’m not going to that date and that’s final!”

“Yes, you are! I know you’re worried about making a fool of yourself in front of Victoria noona but I think you don’t have anything to worry about. She obviously likes you to some extent, else she wouldn’t have accepted your invitation.”

Taemin paused and looked at Jongin seriously. “Besides, do you really want to risk it?”

“Risk what?”

“Risk being beaten up by Kyuhyun hyung, Changmin hyung and all of her male friends? There’s a LOT of them and you know they’ll definitely know if you ditch their ‘sister’.

Jongin visibly paled at the mention of his crush’s male friends. "You’re right. Any sort of humiliation in front of her is much more tolerable than being beaten up by those guys.”

Jongin quickly stood up and made his way to his room to change. Minutes later, he came out completely polished off, ready for his big date.

“How do I look?” he asks Taemin who was now sitting on the spot he occupied earlier.

Taemin gave him a once over before nodding his head. “You look good enough. Okay, let’s go.”

“Let’s?”

Taeming turned to look back at his best friend, a mischievous smile was on his face as he nodded. “Yep, I’m coming with you. I have to make sure you don’t bail out again at the last minute.”

“Victoria, would you go out with me?”

The bouquet of flowers he held in his grip fell onto the ground as he heard the words uttered.

No… No… The words kept on repeating in his head, hoping and praying that the same words would come out of her mouth.

“Of course…” she says with a smile. “I would love to.”

A smile broke out of the older male. He embraced the woman and spun her around in happiness. He knew he had to get out of there, else he would lose his mind.

So he ran. He ran far away from the place he saw them. He ran and ran until he could barely breathe anymore. When he felt his lungs about to give out, he stopped and dropped on to the ground, not caring where it was.

Never in his young life has he felt so many strong emotions all at the same time. Not even performing in front of thousands of fans gave him this kind of rush in emotions.

He felt betrayed. Changmin was a hyung that he had, on more than one occasion, confined with in regards with his feelings regarding the woman. Though, deep inside he knew the other man had no faults since he had no idea that the woman he liked was the same one he happens like as well. He just wanted to hate on the man because he knew there was only one person to blame on his current situation.

Himself.

He was the one who kept on chickening out whenever his friends and hyungs would encourage him to confess to her.  It took him years to gather all the courage to finally confess tonight and he was just a few seconds late.

It wasn’t like he had a chance with her in the first place. Changmin has been her friend even before her debut while he was a mere hoobae that she was able to work with on selected occasions.

But he could have began a friendship with her during those times they worked together. But because he was a coward, he chose to observe her from afar. Maybe if they had become friends, he wouldn’t have taken him this long to ask her. Maybe he would have been the man holding her right now instead of Changmin.

Taemin shook his head at his best friend, who as soon as they entered the stage scouted the area for a certain Chinese woman who leads f(x). He really felt bad for the guy. He feels like Kai’s simple, harmless crush on the older woman is becoming serious.

“You should approach her.” Taemin whispered to Kai. “She doesn’t bite, you know?”

Despite it being dark, he could clearly see the blush that appeared on the younger man’s face. Suddenly, an idea popped into his head.

“Come on, let’s approach them.” he said casually, already walking towards f(x)’s direction.

“W-what?! Are you out of your mind?” Kai asked, visibly panicked

“Oh come on, I told you she doesn’t bite. Besides, Amber noona is there as well.”

Kai looked thoughtful for a second before he shook his head. “Let’s just stay here.”

Taemin can’t believe Kai is passing up this golden opportunity he was presenting him. He guessed he needed to approach this situation differently.

“Suit yourself…. If you want to stay here then stay, I am going up to them.” he declared and left his best friend in favor of the girls.

Taemin approached Victoria and Amber and greeted them. He talked, joked, and even danced with the two ladies. Every once in a while, he would sneak glances towards Kai and every time he was not disappointed. The younger man had his eyes on them at all times, expression a mixture of anger, jealousy, and frustration.

Kai gritted his teeth in frustration as he watched the music video play before him. It may have been a year old but the scenes it contained angered him the same way they did the first time he watched it. He swore to himself never to watch this video again. But here he was, watching the music video of his senior, Zhang Li Yin, where Tao and Victoria were paired up together.

Watching Tao hold her shoulder or grab her arm made him want to hop on to the next plane to China to seek the man and break his hand for daring to touch his goddess. He wanted to punch the daylights out of him when he dared to fix the ribbon on her uniform, their faces, their lips, mere inches apart. And when he hugged her in the end, he never thought he would have thoughts of killing anyone, until that time.  

Kai lets out a sigh as he closed the tab on his computer that played the video. He knew he really didn't have a right to be mad or jealous. He was practically a nobody in the woman's eyes. If they weren't from the same label, he doubts she would even know of his existence.

How he wished it was him, instead of Tao, that was paired up with her. How he wished he was able to work closely together with her like they did. Despite being able to work with her for their joint concert during the holidays and even for their Pink Tape album, he wasn't able to hold a decent conversation with her. He could enumerate all the words he had spoken to her in less than a minute. He remembered a time when he tried to actually hold a conversation with her on stage with their mics on, he made a fool of himself and appeared completely rude towards her.
