well, tbh, it’s not always easy making art and comics—not just eddsworld, but in general. sometimes I’m dissatisfied wth how it looks, maybe i can’t expand on a joke or idea i had, maybe i think the comic isn’t funny enough, maybe I think the humor is too off color and I’d get attacked for it (lol)
point is, don’t beat yourself up if you don’t always have the drive or time to make art. Not everything has to be a great masterpeice or comic, sometimes people adore small things like doodles, and that’s fine.Â
when i deal with artblock, the worst thing i find is to force yourself to draw. it just makes it worse and prolonged. instead, do something else. block the world out and go play a video game, or watch youtube, or read (those are what i do) i especially find just chatting with people face to face and going out to the mall can help a lot, since it takes your focus off your work.Â
as for my ideas, they just kind of come to me, which is something not many people can relate to, unfortunately. i find watching music videos with surreal MVs to help (try pinocchio-p) or artists that have interesting and unique drawings (funamusea) but a lot of my ideas (especially comics) come unexpectedly, when im showering or, mostly, when im outside on my swingset and listening to music. that’s where i get my ideas! i’m naturally comedic, as in i love making jokes and laughing, so comics tend to come easier to me i guess. but even so, i find it hard to force comedy. sometimes you just have to let it come to you.
but most importantly, dont stress, and that’s the hardest lesson. i was always stressed that if i didnt upload enough, people wouldnt like me anymore, but that just isnt the case. i dont know what works best for you, or how you function, but i feel the best way to go about having a low drive is simply to not draw. indulge in another hobby (mine would be writing and programming) or just do something else (shopping, video games, movies, talking, etc.) and it’s ok if the artblock lasts for a while, even for several weeks. and remember, not everything you make has to be a masterpeice. a little messy pencil doodle is just as good :D
